d/d caddy ? need help

i just picked up my 1st.boat....it's a 13'bandit d/d caddy.500 it had a 72" paddle prop .but it has a crack it in that is beyond repair. i have a 69 /40....narrow prop that i put on it tonight ,it was pushing 2000 rpm on the trailer. would this be ok for learning to ride in the shallows? and what is that cross over tube on the heads for it has a vent in it ..is this exhaust or water? can i remove it? i haven't got the radiator fully plumbed yet ,so i have just ran it for a sec. with no water...i would appreciate the help..........

the cross over tube is the a.i.r system for emmissions you can remove it.you can tap and thread plugs in the head where it wen't or you can use i think its 11/16 cup plug or a dime if you wan't.
