DD Cadillac 500 CAM- big torque numbers @ 2800 to 3000!

You guys wanted it, we provided! I sent specs to my man Stan (the nascar guru) and we ran the numbers through his high fallutin computer program. Keep in mind that this is the same guy who added 100 HP to our EMC combo with a 4 degree drop in duration a the exhaust on the closing side only ! This thing was designed to work with the following: Guide clearances that will clear a .560 lift and a spring and rocker that will not bind. I am currently checking stock crap to see if it will work w/o bind, but you will need to machine the guide tops down .150" or retainers will hit for sure. Matter of fact, anything over .500" will! It's set up for 2115 Edelbrock and 275 plus flow on heads! Stck stuff will work, but you will deduct some numbers. not a lot, but enough to warrant the goodies. It's set up for a primary 1 7/8" header length (port included) of 35" and a 15" 3.5" collector. The Sandersons work, but deduct a little there also, probably 20 ft lbs. We conservatively rate this COMBO at over 600 ft lbs at 3000! Peak HP is about 4250. Less with the stock stuff, but hey, it's still a stump puller! Custom Comp Cam and lifters kits are $319.00 plus shipping. We will do an engine the next week or so with one and give you guys the "skinny" on how it works out. POTTER

Damn potter,i`m a buick guy but thats impressive! Nice to see someone take the time to make somthing for the dd guys instead of telling them to get a gear box. If I ever build a dd caddy I`ll be looking for that cam and some goodies thats for sure! Way to step up man, thanks!!

Rich,
now stroke the whole thing and punch it out .90 over. I also beleive you will do better with smaller headers.

Remember the inch and sevens are only 1 and 3/4 on the inside. That's SBC size to me. The Sandersons didn't hurt bad, but it wanted the 35 inch total primary for peak opportunity. Wanted a long collector also. Keep in mind a 3.5 in a 3.5 pipe is ALL collector, so it's easy to obtain with shorter ones. Joe, I can do the same homework for ANY engine you guys want. To me, it's the best 100 to 150 you can spend on combos and also working with what you have. Mike and Dave will even tell you. Cams are a band aid for mis matched combos. They help you to right the wrongs by maximizing what you are working with. Thanks, POTTER

Your a buisy man and there isnt allot of call for buicks in airboats anymore, great motors,in my opinion. Gunna build another for my boat with KB hyperutectics and some head work, the one I`m running now will pull another boat accross dry ground with a 2.37 box and a whirl wind psr blade with out to much trouble. But man is allways looking for more. When I get some specs together in the next few months I`ll pick your brain on a cam if ya don`t mind. Keep up the great work both hear and your shop

Keep us stocker Caddy guys up to date on how this combo will work in the stock caddy engines. Budget tied guys who want just a little more out of em. What kind of torque does the stock caddy put out at the same rpm? How much of a gain will it be? Are we talking new props then as well?

Maybe I was dreaming but I posted on the Buick deal, but it's gone. Maybe I said something out of line. Computer has been down all day due to high wind and a line down. Phone too. Any DD combo can be bettered as a rule. The stock Cadillacs will greatly gain off this combo. We are checking to see if stock springs will clear w/o coil bind. You WILL have to trim guide tops to eliminate retainer to guide crash either way, but stock crap may work with a different pushrod. I can do ANY type cam for any engine on Stan's deal. Takes about $150 to run all the numbers through the puter with all the perameters. It's not very hard to change combos once inside. There is no magic cam, but I try to get the higher end of stuff then simply deduct what not doing certain things removes. I was flabergasted at the results of the DD Cadillac 9-1. The 600 ft lbs is "conservative" to say the least. I never suspected the results would be that good at 3000 or less.

Potter,I was saying that for 1 guy to need a cam wouldn`t be worth your time as I know your buisy. But hey if your willing, when I get ready for the cam in my new motor I`ll get with ya. I didn`t think you would do just 1 cam for a guy, thats all, nothing wrong said.

Well, I can bribe Stan to do a half ass "quickie" and be 90 to 95% there for probably 60 to 75 bucks and I'd be glad to have a cam ground for you. It ain't his style, but I do favors for him all the time. He's like" Oh brother" Still money well spent. He really trips when I want a "streetable" turbo cam. He says there ain't no such thing as a good streetable turbo cam. You lose too much power. If I were going to jump on the bandwagon for Buicks, I'd do what I did here with the DD Cadillacs, but I ain't sure how many are out there. I'm sure there are a few. Just like Pontiacs and Olds'. Hell, if it's got pistons, it's on a boat sumerz. Feel free to email or call anytime. My buddy Mike Phillips does nothing but Buicks in KY. He's done the EMC thing with us several times and does amazing things with a flat tappet cam. They are all just internal combustion engines and all have a sweet spot just dying to be found. :D

100 horse power gain by just decreasing the exhaust duration on the closing side by 4 points.

Assymetrical ramp on a hydraulic camshaft and a 100 horsepower gain. Wow!!!
Where do I sign up???

The gain of 100 was on a solid roller .780" lift. The 100 ft lbs over our standard crate cam for the DD is hydraulic. That's at 3000 rpm though. We still make 600 ft lbs, just higher up the ladder on the 5000 rpm engines. Seriously, though. I don't mind scrounging up somer data. Need bore, stroke, intake design (preferably runner lengths, cross section & air flow. Exhaust type. The regular stuff. The more info and the more time spent, the better off you'll be. The more it costs to run a program too. All out race stuff requires a ton of info/time and about $500 to develop a quality cam profile. I wouldn't reccomend that on a flat tappet cam for love nor money. Nothing to work with anyway. There's a large difference in our 52mm rollers over the std. journals because of size. Not lift, but meat to work with and lobe availability.. We are just skimming the surface for guys that NEED it and don't have the money for boxes and high rpm gear. For you top gun guys, we're ready to pour some bad boy alum. heads too. Preparing an engine for testing on the dyno as we speak, well, I'm typing now, but kinda as we speak. :D

My pleasure. There's a local car lot here that has a slogan "Everybody Rides". That's the way it ought to be in airboat land! So many folks get stuck like Chuck, reminds me of my 70 Bug I had with Scat heads, dual 44mm Dellortos and superdiff. It'd pass everything but a harware store. :D

The volkswagon thing made me laugh and brought back some memories.
I had a superbeetle I think it was. Fun car. 1600cc i think. Sure was fun. I sported that car around like it was something. Bought me a book, figured out where the battery was, where the wiring was, how to change the clutch cable, adjusted the valves, tuned the carb, seems like I had to replace most everything on that car and was just proud to not be walking.
:)
