Im new to airboating I have a 327ci set up for direct drive with no prop.
Is it OK to run a direct drive on this motor? What is the down side? What kind of prop should I run?

KEEP IN MIND IM ON A BUDGET.

THANKS!!

A friend of mine is running a narrow blade sensenich that is 68x38 on a 327. He is spinning this prop 3100rpm, a little noisy but runs dry well.

Just being Frank with you a 327 is about the worst combo you can run on a direct drive SB Chevy next to a 283. The motor has no torque at all it’s a high RPM motor. 327’s utilize a 4.00 bore with a 3.250 stroke. However I know you’re on a budget and any boat is better than no boat at all. My first boat was a 90HP Lycoming. You can set that boat up to run good but I recommend a short Warp Drive for three reasons. (1)Used Warp Drives are cheap to buy. (2) You can turn the motor up higher RPM’s with a short Warp Drive and get it more into a 327’s power range. (3) since your motor makes little torque you want a prop that doesn’t push much until higher RPM’s see the prop will act like a loose high stall torque converter. If you run a stock converter on a 327 in a car it’s a pig but put in a high stall converter that slips and let’s the motor rev up that little 327 becomes a beast that can run with a big block. Also if you run a short Warp Drive set the motor as low as possible in your hull this will drastically improve how your boat handles, turns, responds and runs.

All is not lost, you can always bore & stroke the 327 out to 383 later for a great airboat motor
