DIRECT DRIVE IGNITION CURVE

COLD

Well-known member
I read Waterthunder's recomendation for total timing with an Auto engine on that last "Engines" thread. I assumed he was talking about a reduction engine and was wondering if a Direct drive is set up different. What kind of curve and total advance does a Direct Drive like? Thanks! 8)

I set them both up the same on SB Chevy's make the advance come in ASAP and end up with 32 or 34 deg of total timing. If it's a light small boat you may consider locking your timing in at 32 or 34.

Thanks, I remember my racing buddys used to do homemade crank triggers set up at 32-34 and use the distributor pickup for start and idle, Thanks again! 8)
