I bid on the item linked in the mini thread post by florida boy, I lost the auction and I get an email from the seller( following) The bid went two 172 I think, anyway here's his note. back to me after I said I would take it for the $100 I bid.

In order to make the transaction legit so we can be able to exchange feedback once completed I will have to get in touch with eBay Department. I will need to confirm me the following details:
* your complete name
* your complete shipping address
I'm located overseas for the moment, in Italy because my mother is ill,and we are here for an operation. She has a heart condition. I have to stay here for at least two weeks.Must inform you that I have the item in the custody of the shipping company who helps me every time to ship the goods to the buyers addresses. A 100% serious company and i have a contract with them. Regarding the shipping insurance,who protects my items from any damages on the way to the buyer, i can inform you that they are already paid.Shipping is covered by me so don't have to be worried to pay extra charges for delivery.So the final price will be US $100.00!
Once you will provide me the requested details (full name, address) i will contact the eBay Department and they will do the rest. NO WAY!!! Why would they go to italy for his mothers operation?????? That ones REALLY old.
 
Why send it to Ebay? Heck they are probably involved in the scams. Ebay doesn't care. They are the ones that provided the scammers with your information. It's up to you to protect yourself. I couldn't believe anyone would fall for these but I was in charge of Fraud complaints for 5 years on the police department and we had so many in a day I ran out of detectives to handle them. If the scam wasn't in the tens of thousands we just called them back and thanked them for being a victim. The police can't handle them all and are not going to waste their time on little scams like this.
 
This is a scam. Never, ever buy anything when you have been contacted by a seller after an auction closes on Ebay, unless the buyer contacts you thru E-bay and offers a "2nd Chance." You can read about this legitimate offer on Ebay. You should send the e-mail you received to Ebay. They have a fraud unit that you can send it to.

You were wise to ask around. You just about lost the C-note.
 
I sent him a message back.

Seeing how nice you are, offering to pay the shipping, I am willing to wait until you return home and have a friend pick it up from you home, I have a friend in the same town. That may help with the expenses you incurred while visiting your mother, every little bit helps.

Just for others info, you must forward the original email to the spoof address, you cannot just email them. It won't be accepted. They just tell you that it wasn't sent from ebay and that is the end of it.
 
Since the scammer got your email address from Ebay, he probably now has your passwords too. They sometimes attach a file to their emails to look into the cookies and cache on your computer. Ebay leaves a 24 hour cookie on your machine for passwords. I would clean out all the cookies and cache and you might change your Ebay password as well.

Also, never leave Money in your PayPal account. PayPal is owned by Ebay and it isn't protected any better than Ebay. I guess as long as you are the one losing money and not them, they don't spend the bucks to protect you.
 
I've already changed my password on both and my cookies and cache clear every time I close my browser except for here and a few other sites I have allowed. My email does not allow attachments.
