I wasn't able to get out until Sunday evening, but left the house with high expectations based last weeks scouting. I took 2 of my kids and a Priority 1 brought his airboat. Well, as they say, what a difference a day makes (in this case 6 days). The first area we pushed into was almost completely void of birds - last week several large flocks of teal and huge numbers of mottles (not that they were huntable). Ok, so we'll go set up in the other area, that was also loaded with teal last week. On arrival in second area, we jump our first and only small flock of teal. We again didn't set up and decided to just enjoy the day riding. 38 miles later, great ride = few birds.

On a side note, I let my younger son (17) drive the airboat for the first time and we had some laughs. Actually, the first time was in the first area we traveled when I got hung up and he had to be on the stick while I worked outside the boat to break us loose. Anyway, I let him drive in a nice safe area, a foot to 2 feet deep and he did a great job. As he was following the other boat we kinda quickly ran out of water almost and it got quite slippery, after our 360 we swapped seats again . He did do a good job and learned a little too.

Anyway, we had a great time on the water.

Ruagatr, how did your weekend go? I got out again yesterday evening in the Upper St. John's and was able to get 2 Wood Ducks Drake/Hen. Saw more Wood Ducks than I've ever seen before. Boy was is hot. Acutally the first time I've ever hunted the early teal season. Main reason was the heat. Anyway, had a good time, couldn't get anyone else to go. May go again today.

Cracker: Shot some Blue Winged Teal, had a stupid ignition switch failure and while replacing it saturday night, shorted out the oil pressure stainless braided line against the switches, which melted the inner tubing made of plastic. So when we fired the boat Sunday at 5am, rotella T went everywhere in the gauge box. Fortunately I saw it and shut it down. So new braided line coming and got to sleep in. Good luck today, Charles

BTW - got home too late to clean birds yesterday and put them in fridge. Apparently didn't look close enough when picking up hen, turns out she had jewelry. My first banded bird  .

Limited Saturday with (4) four woodies & (4) four teal.

Never fired a shot on Sunday.

Limited again this morning with (6) six teal & (2) two woodies.
