E-185 almost finished

My new motor is coming along....I still need to put the mag wires on and buy some better oil line hose (rigged up with cheap stuff to block holes). Then, I will be mounting this motor on a 12' 3/4 deck Palm Beach hull. One question, several local guys think this is too much engine for that boat....but around here, it is rare to see a 12' hull. Is this hull going to work alright with this engine? The book says the complete engine is 350 lbs without the oil system.

I have a 12' Kline, 3/4 deck, 80 thousands hull with an angle valve 0540 (425 + lbs) on it. The bottom width, before the rake cap, is 5' wide. You should be fine.

Thanks guys...I just was not sure about the hull...My little 4 cylinder GPU is on it now and it will scoot across the ground pretty good. I am pretty excited about this new motor though and just have to put it on something...if you take a look at my gallery, it has come along way. I have honed all the cylinders, lapped the valves, cleaned from top to bottom, new plugs and wires, etc...

We will just have to wait and see if it runs.

around where i am at . 0540 0520 0470 are on 12 x 7 or x7.6 or 13 x 7 or 7.6 hull. that should run like a rapped ape.and you went with a Continental :thumbright:

FROM OVER HERE IN THE 321 MOSLEY 12FTERS IS WHATS RUNNING THE POWER MOTORS I BOUGHT A 12 GLASS BOAT WITH A 500 CADDIE ON IT THAT WEIGHTS OUT A 620PDS YEA 12X6

Thanks for all the responses on the hull!

Couple more questions. If you look at where I have the oil tank mounted (dry sump engine), will the scavenge pump on my motor pick it up from their, do I need to prime the line any, do I need a check/ball valve....just dont want to try and run this thing if it does not pick up the oil.

What do yall think????

AirAg, I'm no expert on that engine but I would put the pickup tube as close to the oil pump as possible. On the Bonanza aircraft they are very close. Take a run to an airport and look at the set up if you can. Like most pumps, they push more than they suck.

I have a 220 GPU which has a sump similar to a dry sump and the total length of the tube to the oil pump is 14 inches or 8 inches below the bottom of the accessory case. I'd check other set ups. Oh, I guess you are that's why you asked.

I have an E-185 ,had the sump tank sittin in front of the gas tank ,under the hatch covers with about 4ft of hose. If the boat sat for a long period of time the pump would loose prime and I would have to prime the pick up line with oil , pain in the rear.

Like Des Moines suggested , mount the tank as close as possible.
I did that some time ago and never lost prime again .

Prime the line , if you dont it will take a few long agonizing seconds before you see oil pressure. Good luck.

By the way Air ag , motors looking good and what prop you going to run?
