An update on my engine I bought. This was a topic on another thread "Found an engine...now to figure out if it's worth shipping." I found the name plate and it said it was a E-185, 2300, 80. That was all I could read. The 2300 I would think is the RPM, with 185hp at 2300??? Not sure what the 80 is?????
I took the carb and intake off and every thing looks good. Just needs to be cleaned.
Their really isnt a lot of corrosion on the motor. Alittle rust here and there on the steel items. Every thing can be cleaned up. I think what most of yall saw in the picture was pealing paint. Really, the engine is in good shape.
Now for the fun part, I did not pull a head yet, but I did pull all spark plugs. All were black and had oil/burn marks, except one had a little rust (not much, but some). I figure that is great news, and think now the engine might be okay internally. There was still some oil in the engine, with no water in sight (thats what I was afraid of). I kind of thought it was sunk at one time, or had rain water in the cylinders.
After the plugs were pulled, I could turn the crankshaft by hand. It was real hard to do it, but I was able. Dont know if that is a good or bad thing that it was pretty hard to turn the crank.
Overall, I am pleased with the purchase now, and look forward to building this engine. I am sure you guys will be involved, b/c there are alot of things on here that I have questions about. I hope to have pictures up soon.
Thanks, Brent
