Electric Tach.

Can anyone tell me if you can run an electric tach on an aircraft eng.,or am I limited to the old cable tach. If so where can I find cables and tachs.

You can buy an adapter from a diesel engine to convert to a electric tach. They are not cheap though.

autometer makes an adapter, but it cannot be used with solid core ignition wires, too much RF. Give them a call there may be other options. I think I would prefer the mechanical though.

I tried an elect tach, could not get the right ratio on an aircraft . went back to the mechanical, you might find one to work off am alt.

Stewart Warner offers a tach (0-3500 rpm) that can be run off the alternator (I think?). This is what I bought. Got it at NAPA
