Engine Noise

Is it normal to hear a slight wine to an aircraft engine at an idle or is this telling me I have some internal problems about to happen?

They rattle and clank and make all sort of noise, but I can't say I've ever heard one whine at idle.

Sure it's not prop sound?

Don't know if it'd classify as a whine or not, but if it's sucking air at the intake tube you can get a high pitch sound that you can only hear at idle.

That happened to me a couple of years back when I first put mufflers on my 4 cylinder.

I've never heard an aircraft whine but I'm with Grant on this one. I had a loose belt on the alternator once and my first thought was some kind of engine problem. Actually before I had time to analyze it my wife heard the difference in sound and asked why the alternator was loose.

Is the engine running all right? If it's an intake leak you should have some roughness too.

I have heard a lot of aircraft engine owners whine does that count LOL just kiddin no death threats required
