Engine Price Question

Backwater Waterfowl

Active member
I bought an airboat that has a continental 6cyl engine on it. I believe it is a 0-470 from what a guy at Trailboss told me. I was just wondering what an engine like this is worth and if there is a market for them. I am going to upgrade to a sbc so I would like to sell this engine to help pay for the new one. Any info would be greatly appreciated because I know nothing about this. Is there anyone out there that is looking for this type of engine.

Thanks

From what I hear very good engine. Depending on condition they can be worth good money. If it was me I would run it with that motor to see how you like it first. Im sure someone with more knowledge will chime in and give you a better answer though.

Should be an easy 3 grand for that motor depending if everything is alringht with it.

I have thought about running it but I am needing to carry heavy loads and want to be able to run dry and think that the sbc will be better suited for what I want to do. If I was going to be carrying 1 to 3 people it would probably be great but I am needing to carry 4-5 guiding. I appreciate the advice keep it coming.

I would try that 0470 first and see what you think, you might be surprised. That motor should do decent for what your trying to do. My uncle has that same motor on a 13x8 Apache and has never had any problems. Runs the dry with three people no problems loaded down during hunting season.

what is the model number ? is it a 220 gpu?does it have two mags? i have a buddy that would be interested in buying it for his boat,as long it is aircraft not a gpu.is it an angle value?give me a call if u want 321 508 5171 name woody

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to go with a sbc as personal preference. What would be the best way to go about selling this engine and how can I find out the exact type that I have? There was a few questions asked that I had no idea about.

Thanks

I have a small 11 x 7 deck-over with a SBC direct drive which is way too heavy for it. The rear sits way too low in the water and very top heavy. I have 2 young boys and gotta be real carefull when we go out. I'm switching to aircraft power and am interested in your motor. call me @ 305-796-9676 cell. Thanks, Rick

Aggie,

Unless you plan a total rerig with a reduction box on that SBC, You'll be VERY disappointed in the swap. SBCs won't make the torque necessary to tote that load at safe prop RPM -- less than 3,000. ACs top out in torque at 2,700 - 2,900.

Look at the engine ser# and querry Continental - they'll provide yr. of mfg, model & hp of engine when it was sold...no real way to tell about later mods.

I guide here in FL and use an AC with no problems. A rerig from AC to SBC is a TOTAL rerig. Serious $$$ and usually, serious challenges.
