Engine/prop height

Hey guys, looking for a little advice from the experienced. I have a 14' Combee with a direct drive 500. The hull has a splash well. I have the engine stand all the way back against the splash well with the tip of the prop in the splash well. This setup puts my engine/prop up higher than most bost I've seen. Would I be better off moving everthing forward so I could lower the prop some? I'm a little hesitant to do this as the boat already rides just a little nose heavy. I'm very happy with the way the boat rides and handles, I'm just wondering if lowering things would give me a little more push on dry ground. Can't afford a gearbox and new prop at this time so I'm trying to get the most out of what I've got. Does the splash well even serve much of a purpose? My hull is high sided and I have never had water come over the transom, even loaded down with camping gear. Thanks.Dan

No, I would not change your set up, other than maybe adding a jack stand if you don't already have one. Near as I can tell your boat is set up alright.

3-6" is a good rule of thumb for the depth inside of the trans & The distance from it. Works well on any open Hull.

Snook,
try shimming the back of your motor up (in 1/8" increments) to get it to not ride on it's nose. Also I have seen guys take a sawzall to remove those pig troughs. If you dont have a problem with prop splash then get rid of the dead weight. JMO.
