Engine stand for a 220 gpu

I might be picking up a 13ft cotton mouth already rigged and everything but the motor is shot....There is a 0470 on it right now but it hasnt ran in 6 years....I was looking at puttin a 220 gpu on it do to costs.....Will it fit on the same stand as a 0470

The gpu is a totally different case then the 0470, but I have seen custom motor mounts to bolt a gpu on an 0470 stand. I have some pics somewheres of one such mount, I'll have to see if I can find them.

Another question......I need a ball park figure on a slighty used or completely rebuilt 0470....The motor on it now is a lemon....its been rebuilt a few times but after for sitting for so long I rather just a new motor

A couple of thoughts - the aircraft 0-470 will almost always have significantly more power than a stock GPU. Why the decision to downsize? There may be components on your 0-470 aircraft that will make a GPU case as hot setup = maybe like angle valve cylinders, pistons - etc. We have a stock 0-470 / E-225 that is a fresh aircraft runout for sale here in classifieds.

Right now funds are limited and i can't really afford 6 grand for an engine.....Right now I got offered the hull with complete rigging and a shot motor for 500 with out a trailor....Figure around another 500 for a trailer and 6 grand for the moter....7000 grand all together figuring I get some one to help me instale the motor.....Might as well buy a complete boat once I get the money

The reason I was considering picking this boat up now and getting a gpu is they are less money and everyone I have talked to that runs a 220 says with a second mag they will run all day long and are easy on gas. Now a grand for the hull and finding another trailer...No more than 3 grand for a gpu maybe a little more if it comes with a prop......I am looking at around 4 grand and instead of hanging out at the ramp wishing i was out there or hoping that my buddy's dad will let him take the boat out I could be out there riding

As a collge student My money is tight and I was going to use this boat as a project...I havent made any decisions but maybe I could get some advice from yall

( 1 )Do I buy the haul and put a 220 gpu on it
( 2 )Buy the haul and save up more money and get the 0-470
( 3 )Wait till I save enough money to where I can just lay down money on a complete boat that I hitch up to my truck and go straight to the ramp and ride out to camp

You wont be disappointed with the 220. There are tons of boats with that exact setup out there. It will definately get you around fine. But like BigDaddy said, check out using parts off of your 0470 to improve the performance of the 220.
Definately don't just get rid of that motor!! Use what you can off it. Do you know exactly whats wrong with the 470? I mean you are talking about spending $3000 on a 220 but have you thought about seeing how much it would take to get the 470 running? Good possibility that it would be cheaper. Maybe more power for less $$$.
I have a 13'6 Cottonmouth. If it is in decent shape or better then grab it for that price. Don't look so much at the glasswork that may need to be done because that is just cosmetic but pay real close attention to the stringers and the bottom. If the bottom is wore slap through to the wood then stay away cause the new glass won't stay on. If you get ready for a new hull then check out those Predators ($2000 roughly). They are similar to a Cottonmouth but WAY BETTER!!!

Before you give up on the idea of a 470 I would consider looking around first. My opinion if the boat is in good shape and the rigging is in good shape you can't go wrong for 500.00. You should be able to dump the motor on it for that. The E series motors in my opinion are excellent motors. The 220's are cheap but sometimes if you take and spend some time on the internet looking in the airplane salvage places you can find the E motor. You would think with all of the hurricanes there should be plenty of them. I bought an E-225 2 years ago from Kansas, motor was still in plane but plane failed inspection. Motor had logs and maybe a few hundred hours left on it and it cost 2950 shipped. Point being I would do some looking first. The weight savings of the E-225 or E-185 should be quite a bit as well.

If your looking for cheap just buy the hull and throw a motor stand for a driect drive and put a car motor on it .. (JUST MY OPINION) they are cheap

I want to stay away from car motors.....The boat is not going anywhere so I have some time to figure it out......All I need is something to get my around and is easy on gas....Speed doesnt matter much but would like enough power to keep from getting stuck.....Don't really plan on jumping levies or running dry

Its going to be a few months before anything...trying to do my research now

F Q these folks are giving you good advice on this one near as I can tell. Basically save your current motor even if it isn't working so you can upgrade the 220 as you go along. If possible find out what is wrong with current motor and fix it instead of buying 220. It seems like the price is right I don't know how you could lose on that one. You can get a trailer on airboattrader.com and you can get more advice on here than you could ever decode and use. You have to be careful what you ask on here because opinions are offered freely and sometime sthe really good advice given, and I mean that, actually overwhelms the asker to the point of actually stopping the project.

You will never have access to as much quality information anywhere else but here and the price is good also. SO GET GOIN, GITTR DUN
