Engine Weights, Heads or Tails?

Where do we find Engine Weights?

From the American site under Engine & Prop Data we found;

350/825; 454/965; 396Diesel/987 & just guessing they include gear or belt?

From the 383 Stroker or 454 thread of July 26 we see from Thunder;

LS 1 with Rotator 460; 383 with Rotator 640 & 383 Ironhead with Rotator 674.

Nowhere at the Cad Company website did we find weight for the Caddy?
Need to know true engine weight for the Caddy, the 454 & the 455 engs.

Also, Thunder is the LS 1 weight correct & is the 383 a long or short block?

Please disregard any part of this that don't make sense :)

Thanx, Gben

Just got back from 9 day's in the Florida key's of wreck diving and fishing the vis was incredible best I’ve seen in years. The Vis was a 100 plus feet everyday with a max of 1ft seas. Finally I was able to go on vacation without a frickin hurricane ruining my plans. Anyway all of the engine weights I posted were complete ready to run weights with starters, headers, carb, plug wires, water pump, oil and all required components. There are a hundred people claiming weights that they read online somewhere all my weights were personally done by myself on a calibrated scale.

Thanx Cntry you were right on :)

Thunder,

Glad you enjoyed your underwater getaway. Don't see how you find time to even sleep. Never been much lower than diggin tators nor much higher than pickin peaches but :D

Not that I didn't trust your media but after going back & seeing it the 2nd time thought there might have been a simple typo or something.

Here I am searching agn for the weights of the heavies when you've told us already what the lightweights will do. When we find a good used 15 or 16 (alum pref) it may be complete or could be just hull. Don't know yet & not many avail this time of year but if it needs an engine don't speak much cocker espanial :( Might come south anyway.

Thanx. Gben

The first day I was in the Key’s I received over 20 phone calls so my buddy took my phone while I was diving a wreck and hid it from me. To be honest I'm glade he did I got my phone back 8 day's later and my mailbox was full. So to everybody if I missed your call I'm sorry I will return all of my messages. Well back to the shop and my feudal attempt to catch up.

Oh ya I know where there is a 15ft fiberglass Apache hull in great shape with new polymer it comes with trailer, rigging, belt drive, prop, rudders, gauges and fuel tank. It’s a great tour boat or work boat no damage or anything wrong with it. $6,500 is all he wants for it.

Thanx Thunder

Looking into a 16 Alum Panther in Alabama with DD Cad motor deep water, no poly but new wood paddle prop, trim tab, troller, 5 seat 8500.

But didn't know year of manufacture or if 7 or 8 wide & says motor has never been o/h. Call back fri or sat.

I said to him if I drive that far & find corroded hull he pays my gas back & he agreed :) The one in Ky would not agree so needless to say we saved the gas.

GB Cad 500 - rotator 237, alumium intake 950 heads ported hard, bb rollers rockers,Forged rods the light ones , ready to run 662 pounds :lol:could be better no cash for alumium :D

I have always been told their only 30 or so pounds heavier than a SBC when they have an aluminum intake. That's pretty light considering. I would love to run a 2to1 box on one with aluminum heads. That's their only down fall parts cost substantially more and are few and far between. That's why I have put so much effort into my LS1 program. Their cheap extremely powerful and light plus everyone makes aftermarket parts for them. In direct drive a Caddy and OLD's are the best two options.

I will P.M. you some pic's of it later this week. The rigging is 1 year old and it comes with the radiator and all hoses, headers all it needs is a motor and prop. I have somebody wanting it turn key but I don't have time to build a motor for it.

We're finding more FG boats with runout motors but few Alum in the 15/16 size. Hulls also are few & far between & so we'll just be patient :( & see what shows up later in fall weather.

Also Thunder what you're saying abt avail time todo engine/prop chg & fitting different setup's is what we're finding right now. Who is apt & avail is just not going tobe around here in our patch anywhere. Our good folks that do our metal work have never done any Airboat fabrication. Not to say they aren't very good at what they do but if something like motor mount is needed who will direct them? Where & how to attach are the things that may be needed & going to the big manufacture people who are too busy anyway is like asking for cost punishment :(

I tell you it's Ruff being poorfolks & wanting an Airboat at the same time :)

Thnx, Gben

GBEN you can buy the engine stand from classic or diamond back already to install in the boat. The same for seat stands and other stuff, or at least you used to be able to anyways

I can build what ever set up you want and I'm not a big manufacturer I build every thing to fit what ever hull you get.

Cntry & CC,

Didn't know agn & agn & agn :( but will chk as soon as a suitable boat is found.

Nice new website CC & we've had you in mind right along. Your pics almost says it all including the many things you are willing todo.

We're leaning toward a deepwater type that we can mold into what we really want sense we now know that no certain Airboat will doit all.
We will need low seating with 2 down, 2 up & front controls. Will also need between the knees control stick for the rudders & a twist lock hand throttle for RPM setting in addition to foot pedal. But if anyone knows how to adapt the engine control into the rudder stick as a twist throttle then that will be the way we'll go.

We thimk the type of boat we're looking for will have or have had a heavy engine & probly DD prop which may direct us in the possible engine choices. :( May not be capable of running on the ground & still get MPG.

Thnx Guys, Gben

Wow I just reread this thread. These numbers are way off if the second number is supposed to be weight. A 350 with iron heads iron water pump and iron exhaust manifolds with a gearbox and filled with concrete doesn’t weigh 825Lbs. I know a BBC doesn’t weigh 35lb’s shy of a 1,000lbs also. I also find it hard to believe a diesel V/8 only weighs 22lbs more than a 454. All my weights posted are from me personally weighing each combo with a certified calibrated scale. Don’t believe any vague weights posted on the Internet. For instance there is a tall deck and short deck Big Block Chevy the tall deck weighs around 80lbs more than the short deck. There is also a weight difference between a mark IV and V and VI Big Block Chevy’s. That’s why I never say a motor weighs this I only state the combination I have weighed personally.

If you throw in the engine stand thoughs weights (350 / 825) may be close, but it still sounds high. I weighed a ZZ4 years ago ready to put on the boat less the gearbox, radiator, and coolant, it was just under 500 LBS.

Thunder,

Thanks for makin my dream a reality!

My boat needs to go a a big time diet! (Yeah, and me too of course)!

Can I cut the 454 in half and run on 4 cylinders till I can get one of the LS1's?

Basketcase

Well Basket

You certainly have a case because you've brought us a big LOL :D :D with that one.

There is no doubt that the ThunderMan can geterdone especially if they have mistakenly installed one of those 965lbs motors.
