ok I can tell all types of stuff about designing and building hulls but know little to nothing about engines :(

I have a cont with 470 jugs, dual mags 4 cylinder. it ran fine the day before yesterday, then sat yesterday because I was not feeling well . the kids came home and I took them out this am to shoot some ducks and ride some but boat would not start  the only thing I could think of was I put new plugs in so I just pulled them an compared the gap to the old plugs ........still will not start  I did notice a nick in my prop and come to find out one of the engine mount bolts behind the flywheel came lose and was gone the other was lose so I replaced that and wired them together but what do I look at now to get it started ????

any of ya'll ac engine guys around PSL ?????

G H if you left it uncovered and it rained I would check your mags to see if there wet.I changed my plugs and my motor didn't seem to have the power it had before the plug change. It turned out I had two dead plugs they were champion D-16.

First I would check the mags to see if they have any spark. I just bought a boat with a 220 GPU and it ran 3 half hour trips fine and then it quit. I took the mag to a certified repair shop and found the mag was shot. Not unusual from a Florida engine. Now I have a great running mag. All you need for any motor is compression, fuel and spark. If it's not running it has to be one of those.

ok maybe that's it. yes it did rain and yes it was uncovered . but I figured since it has been uncovered for the last 1 1/2 it should have been fine, oh well told you I didn't know shit about engines  I thought maybe the plug gap was wrong that why I compared to the old ones never really thought about the mags

is there a way I can check the mags my self or can someone recommend a place around port saint lucie if not :?:

One easy way is to pull a plug lay it on a cylinder with the plugwire attached and turn your engine over to see if you have spark (mag switches in run position) If there is no spark or it is weak then carefully take the front cover off your mag and dry the inside of the mags out with mild air pressure. Then you should clean your points with mild sandpaper or emery board (the thing woman use to file their nales). Put it back together and check spark again. Should do the trick.

Gold, remember it takes 3 things to make an engine run

Spark
Fuel
Compressrion

Your Mag got wet.......ill bet due to rain..ya gotta cover them.

ok well call it a learning lesson you can't leave ac motors set out like auto engines , guess there not redneck proof  I'll start covering that one now :D

I will try to check and dry them in the morning , thanks guys :D

Hey G-H2,
Check your pm's.
I'll hook up with you after Christmas if you want, and we can figure out what it is.

Later.

Look on the side of the Mags, there are plastic plugs with little air holes in them. Bet water came in there............

The wife's blow dryer works real good for drying them out.
hot dry air and not too much air pressure.

never really messed with the mags before on ac motor cowboy said he could swing by and help me out that way I see how to do it in case I ever need to again
