Epoxy application

Alright guys, I have decided to use the Steelflex super slick epoxy on my smooth bottom Jon boat.

Question is for anyone reading this could you please give me some application instructions/tips so I do not have to go at this blind.

Specifically metal prep, etching the aluminum, masking, initial application quantities(area will be 192"X66"), and non level surface application.

I appreciate all help in advance.

Did mine a few weeks ago, the stuff is real thick. Mix both parts and pour some of it on, then I used a short nap roller and a drywall (plastic) blade to spread it. Best advice is don't do it alone, extra help is nice to help spread it out. Then I used a fine hair brush and smothed it out in long long strokes from front to rear. Tape boat up good and let dry a couple days, also level boat or it will all run torwards the lowest point.
Hope this helps, Rick

That Superslick steel flex is tough to apply, if your worried about the finnished look. I found that the regular steel flex product is a little easier to apply, but it is not quite as slippery.

Have a stable surface to apply it to, and have it a little rough with say 60 grit. Hit it with some solvent to make sure it's clean before applying the product.

I like to do the boat a section at a time. Try leveling the boat by tipping it on it's side against a tree, and get the surface level. Then just do that side.

I found that the best applicator for me was a cheap fuzzy styrofoampad from home depot. It will let you put it down in fairly even coats.
I recommend at least two, and sand once before going on with the second coat.

It is a pain if you want it to look nice. If not just go to own with a roller, and let it go.
