Do any of you have a superduty 6.0 powerstroke diesel that can tell me what kind of fuel millage these trucks get. I went to the dealer and there are no specs on these trucks for fuel millage. I would like to find out how much you guys are getting when towing your boats and not in tow.

Thanks,
Dan

12-16mpg as per loads,driving habits,city,highway etc.

I hear from fellow mechanics the way to beat flat rate on cylinder head R&R or Engine, just remove the cab and front sheetmetal first, 8) Gas jobs too! For Real! :?

I have an 05 F350 pulling a 30' gooseneck loaded about 7, airboat about 11 empty aobut 12 to 13 hope this helps ya.

I have an 05' f-350 6.0 dually 4x4 and i get around 12-13 pulling my airboat. 13.7 mpg is the avg empty.

2006 F-250 4X4 I get between 15 and 16 empty and 10 pulling my airboat or travel trailer. Very little city driving.

Thanks for the info,

Hopefully I will have one before the end of the year and get a good deal on a 06'.

The Dodges with the Cummins normally get a little better than the Fords I get 18 mpg pulling my 14 ft Diamondback

Man, that is good mileage. Swampjet runs one too I think and he says it hauls his boat 'no problem'.

Yea those straight six cummins have a lot of tourque and they are easy to work on like changing the oil and fuel filter.

02' F250 4x4 7.3L Powerstroke w/reprogrammer and Intake Mod.

I can get 22MPG on a Good Day but only get about 18 Normal

10MPG with the Big Orange Boat behind.

The 7.3 is a better engine than the 6.0. The 6.0 was short lived and due to be replaced with a larger displacement engine by Navistar. Right now the Duramax engines are doing real well. I have a customer that is getting 19-22 hwy and 16-18 loaded. Of course everbody's load weights are different so I'm not sure if his are typical or not.

Be advised they are having some real issues with 6.0 engines. And they are trying to keep it quiet.

Dblj, how are the Duramax engines as far as service points ..... filters, oil changes, etc. ? Fairly easy ?

olf

What problems are they having with the late 6.0 ? The new engine is to meet the new emissions standard and cost a lot more as an option, I am told. Chevy is saying their Duramax price will increase by 2000 dollars for the new ULSD engine.

Olf, I'm not familiar with the Duramax as with the 7.3, 6.0. And I'm not a mechanic either, I have access to certain service issues with the Powerstoke engines.

There are issues and stay away from used vehicles.

But you talk with some owners and their trucks have been in the shop more than they have had them and others trouble free.

I recommend a Google search to you rbjscott you'll find pro's and con's.

I'm not dissing Powerstrokes, the 7.3 are bulletproof when maintained properly as are most diesels.

FYI, I have a 1998 Dodge 4x4 quad cab 2500; OEM 24 valve 5.9L inline 6 cyl; new it got 19.5 mpg highway (77 mph; yea, I am one of those); pulling a 2,500 lb draft mule in a small steel stock trailer from New Mexico to Louisiana, it got 14 mpg. Pulling the same trailer empty, still got 14 mpg; pulling a 32 foot offshore boat, 3 axle trailer, load of about 14,000 lbs, over 4 years, never got less than 8.5 mpg, sometimes as high as 10 mpg (we tugged that rascal at 70 mph on clear interstates). Airboat or 18 foot mudboat; 15 mpg @ 70-75 mph.

Forgot to say the trans is an automatic and the rearend is the high speed one, I believe a 3.55; not the towing rear end. Have not tried to pull a wet turd out of a mule, figure I will leave that drill for the Ford and Chevy followers.

Rich, How could you say such things.

I pull a 40' gooseneck with an '05 Dodge 4x4 dually and manual transmission, and I am usually hualing palm trees. I took a load of 15 trees(14'-18' tall) from Inglis to Melborne on Thursday. Loaded I got 8.5 mpg.I have 4.10 gears in the rear end and at 65mph I am turning about 2100-2200 rpms. I run out of gear before I run out of power. Dodge needs to make an 8-speed the 6-speed with 4.10s won't go fast enough  . I think they are the best trucks made and when Benz bought Dodge I think the quality went way up. If I am empty and drive like I have some sense I can get aruond 20-21. The trucks with 3.73 gears can get better. The only mod I have is a super chip tuner on the tow-performance level. Bought on e-bay for half the price at Summitt.
Just my two cents worth from some one who maks his "airboat" money with a diesel truck.
I got to be a paid tourist on Thursday and see where alot of you guys are from. Went to Panther but missed the turn to Diamondback. I'll know for next time.
