FAA elections conflict with Sarno Races

Daddy Dave

Well-known member
I know plenty will attend the Sarno races instead of going to the FAA quarterly meeting at Lake Cypress Fish Camp on Saturday October 14 - BUT - these FAA elections will impact every airboater in Florida and will determine much about the future of airboating in Florida.

2006 / 2007 airboat access issues - particularly those dealing with access to WMD marshes - are shaping up to be monumental. Who we choose to lead our troops will determine our success or failure. Hope here is that EVERY member of FAA will attend and vote their choices for officers.

If SAO is still looking for a delegate to attend, I am free that weekend as of right now and would be more than happy to represent this organization. I don't have any prior engagements so staying for the whole meeting won't be an issue.

Rick, just let me know if you need me.

Adam

Is SA.com considering posting a list of candidates and seek impute from it's members as to choices?
PW

There has been no notification to members of FAA of those willing and wishing to serve. This is an example of a breakdown in communication between FAA and its member organizations.

SwampJet - Capt. Bob Hoover - is an announced candidate for President, but his daughter's wedding will prevent his attendance at the elections.

So we have these candidates so far:

President:
Phil Walters (I assume it is a safe bet that you are running again)
Bob Hoover

Vice President:
Danny Brantley (if Bob Hoover is elected)

What about Bishop Wright and all the others from down south??? Has anyone else heard any talk at any of their club meetings??? Lets start making some calls so we can get this info out there and start deciding who we want leading us in the future....

Adam, In another thread I had volunteered to represent S/A at the FAA meeting because of the conflict.

If you are willing, I'll let you go since I feel you are more qualified, and more in the loop. I'll still stay on as volunteer in case something comes up and you can't make it.

I'm proud to have you represent me. Charity and I have been playing phone tag the past couple of days, I suspect this may be why she was trying to reach me. Dakota - if you read this.... still keep trying to reach me... I've got questions/cpmments on that other issue we've been discussing. Just after sunset is usually a good time to catch me near my phone.

As for the issues - Darn right they need to be put before the site supporters of this group - as they should be put before all member clubs. I'm ready to help post the polls, and keep tabs on the wishes of Southern Airboat as a group in case I'm called to attend.

As far as leader election. This seems to be the biggest issue, and more than just posting a list of names, as a member, I'd like to see what each candidate stands for... i.e. what they plan to do as Prez, and some examples of where they plan on leading the organization.

I'd also like to encourage EVERY AIRBOAT CLUB AND OTHER MEMBER OF THE FAA to do the same when it comes to the above information. Get your members involved in making an educated decision.

For us ALL to be effective, we need to make informed decisions.

matt.

Man there must be something going on that I know absolutely nothing about. So I will be quite untill I educate myself!

It is real hard for delegates to vote their clubs wishes when not even the delagates get info in advance. This is just another reason to stay VERY VERY FAR away from the FAA. They cant represent themselves let alone airboaters when they cant even make a list of who is running for what. GEEZ how hard can that be and ya'll want to send them back to tallahasse to make some more laws for us in airboating huh, you didn't get enough mis-representation last time. Untill they get the communications worked out and get real members who can vote they will continue to be a bad joke. just my opinion and one which will probably get me sent to the sand box, but cmon get real they gotta communicate if they want to claim they represent all airboaters in florida is that really that much to ask for. they want money and they can't even tell who is running for office and we gonna give them a gun (money) to shoot us in the foot again like they did last year. Where was this big conspiracy that was passing laws on airboats they talked about the only law proposed was the one they proposed and look at the results yepper we now have a section of laws just for us and we now have a criminal offense after one violation of the muffler law. We now have to run flags, even at night. And the so called benefit to airboaters, the super majority vote was washed out of the law and is not required and ya'll want more money this year huh, fat chance at my house.

CNTRY, I totally understand your frustration...in fact I feel pretty much the same, but I can also see that with the right peole involved and with the right leadership, the FAA has the potential to do good things for all of us.

I think this change is just on the horizon and I for one am committed to doing all I can on my end to help sort everything out. If I am going to represent us, then in the next few weeks I'll be doing all I can to work with the current leaders to get as good a list as possible together of the candidates so we can discuss who we want to support.

Last time I was the delegate we had no clue who to vote for until we arrived and I made a horrible mistake...this time I want to make sure that I represent what we all decide we want.

I'll run it all by Rick but I propose we keep it in one of the sections where only site supporters may contribute to the polls. If someone feels differently then lets hash it out asap so we can get a plan together.

Dakota, call me so I can get you to disseminate some info my way. Thanks.

If any body has a problem with me being our Rep. then please speak up soon. I have thick skin.

Adam

However you all want to handle this is fine with me.

I'll handle any site related duties like setting up areas with custom viewing, posting, and voting permissions if need be.

Some of you may have noticed the status of this forum; "Hidden - Registered Members Only". Not top secret by any means...it's just hidden to guests.

Thanks Matt, I will try to get a hold of you sometime tonight. BPS, I am pming you.

Normally Big D I would have been there but for some reason that is the weekend they wanted to do the races. And believe me I know how important they were so that is why I was trying to get someone to go on behalf of southernairboat because I know how important this is. Just wish I could be there!!!

I hear you CNTRY - you have a valid opinion. VERY valid.

The FAA will have to put on a pretty good "show" for me to give cash. I'm not a pushover with them for sure! Neither is Adam from what I'm reading. And we ALL know that fire within Dakota! Dang Girl! She ain't no pushover either!!!!

But at the present time, the FAA is the only tool in our toolbox. It seems to me that until something else comes along, putting effort into making the FAA a better and more REPRESENTATIVE org is a good thing.

A candidate who comes along and says they intend on overhauling the FAA from top to bottom, and shows a plausible plan for it is a candidate who will get my vote!

Improved (GREATLY IMPROVED) communication is another thing a candidate can say that will get my attention.

But they can't just SAY this stuff.... I want to see A PLAN. Something that leads me to believe it's more than an election promise.

I'd like to help meet that goal if they set it. I'll do what I can donating time and effort. BUT.....

If there is no change in the FAA's way of doing business, they'll lose my support. And probably many others too. They've ALREADY lost the support and confidence of many.

But if they show hope of being able to be turned around, I'll reconsider supporting them.

They are the best (only) thing we got going. I do not want to dwell on the past, but look to the future. A clean slate. Water under the bridge. But that change has gotta come.

If a vote ever comes up for 100% individual memberships with individual voting power, I'm in there in an instant with heart & soul. That's being a TRULY"representative org". The improved delegate system Capt. Dave brought up a short while back - well that's a definite step in the right direction.

But the delegate system as it is right now, just plain don't work. Face it. The FAA is a buddy-backslap organization at best. At least we're all airboatin' buddies. Well most of us are. Problem with that is, it touted as a representative org, which it most definitely is not!

It's more akin to a "trade association" because of all the commercial members. (& commercial interests) Not a "user group". That's gotta be fixed. If it is a "trade assn" then call it that and stop trying to be on both sides of the road. I have no problem with an aitboat trade association! So long as we know it's motives and loyalities.

rambling thoughts over. :)

matt.

No problem Dakota...You have done a great job by simply being involved and helping out at previous meetings!!! That's all we can ask for.

Adam

I also forgot to post this, I too would like to know who is running in this election. Someone has to know and I think it is only fair that we know so we as a club can discuss this.

And not just us.... I sincerely hope that EVERY member club works to improve/use their communication to reach their own decision for their own delegates.

Adam,

I have a great idea! Why don't you run for president of the FAA?? Doesn't everyone else agree? Adam, maybe it's your turn...with the access to input you have...you can please the masses! Won't you at least consider it?

Lauren

P.S. Maybe we should nominate Big Daddy. He has an excellent way with words...I'm sure he could get the job done.

P.S.S. Maybe even County (John) would consider placing his name in the hat! What about it ya'll?? Let's get some names in the hat! Show up and vote! That's all it takes....simple stuff!

I am currently in contact with members of the FAA Executive meeting to come up with this info as quickly as possible. It won't be overnight but I will have some sort of discussion area with the ones we do know for sure up NLT (no later than) Friday the 6th of October. That will give us a minimum of a week to discuss the candidates and come to some sort of an agreement.

I do plan on showing up and voting.

P.S.: I wouldn't mind running for an office but since I am a "do-nothing liberal", I have prior commitments with the military that will probably impede my ability to hold office in the next year...
