FFWCC accepts staff recs for airboat noise reduction

Daddy Dave

Well-known member
FFWCC voted this afternoon to accept their staff's recomendations to reduce airboat noise levels.

Automotive type mufflers will be required on all airboats
Airboaters Code of Ethics and Operation will be adopted

Final vote at next FFWCC meeting in Key Largo on November 30, 2005

Also, FFWCC responded positively to the idea of them sponsoring ongoing "Quiet Airboat" competitions

Also, FFWCC responded positively to the offer and concept of FAA member participation in a training program to offer direct assistance for disaster transportation. No details or requirements for airboater participation have been set or even discussed at this point.

BigDaddy,

This sounds like good new to me! (mufflers are cheap, much more improvements could really be costly).

I think I know somebody who is way ahead of us all in the "noise competition". Hint, he has money "plastered" all over his rudder!

The training also sounds good. Hope they continue to listen to the FAA's input on such important issues.

Spinin' Money and I sat together yesterday. He's all over this one. Prediction here is the FAA / FWC Quiet Airboat Championship will be hotly contested. There's a sleeper in the woods, too. American Bad Boy, otherwise known as Citrus Thunder, may be about to turn over a new leaf - no, make that a new tree.

Many were particularly pleased that FFWCC Chairman & fellow airboater Herky Huffman had good public things to say about FAA and the attitude of cooperation all airboaters involved showed in the airboat noise study. All commissioners were invited to attend the Oct.08 FAA meeting and participate in the Gathering / Ride at the Bus.

Moodfood, you better get to work.

In answer to several phone calls today and yesterday - this action by the FFWCC - to accept staff reccomendations requiring automotive type mufflers on all Florida airboats, the active support and adoption of the Airboater Code of Ethics and Courteous Opertaion, and the move to sponsor quiet airboat competitions will now be subject to additional public comment at a series of workshops to be announced soon. Final action is scheduled for November 30 at the next regularly scheduled FFWCC meeting in Key Largo. There will likely be a specific grace period for compliance as the rule could take effect upon final action by the Commission.

Quieter sounds good to me y'all ..... I've got no problem with it as long as the people they send out to enforce it know what they're doin', and
they don't get unreasonable.

How 'bout a "Show and Tell" type of forum on SA ..... I try, or you try something to make a blowboat quieter. Describe what ya' did, and if it worked. Lookin' for ideas can only be good for us all.
