Fiberglass or alum.

I live hare on the west coast and have a fiberglass hull but when i have been down to the everglades all a see is alum. hulls. Is there a reason that the fiberglass hulls are not used a much?

The fiberglass hulls don't last me a good hard weekend!

Stumps , rocks and gravel roads do them in pretty quick!

Get a little break, and sawgrass will rip it from one end to the other!

I have owned both, don't get bent out of shape , this is just one mans opinion!

Flaboy, another reason is that the boaters down South are less concerned with saltwater corrosion.
Where we run, a glass hull lasts a lot better than an aluminum hull might.

Grant: Dont know why you would think i would get bent out of shape. Just asked for some info . Thanks for your input.

flaboy,

Sorry, Did not mean anything negative by that statement, Just used to being "corrected" for having an opinion!
Both hull styles have their place, and work equally well when used as intended!

I agree with Grant on hull choice. I've had both and fiberglass just didn't stand up as well with the rough running I did and still do. It is important to add that I didn't run poly on the glass hull though.

Thanks for the input . The only way to find out things is to ask . So when i go again down to the everglades i will still have to keep a sharp look out for big rocks and stumps 10-4. I do run poly on the full botom because of the oyster bars we have in the salt marshs.

FLABOY I was wondering the same thing, its almost like fiberglass hulls are outlawed down there, I have both types of hulls and in my glass hull i jump gravel roads, hit fence post, bounce of cypress knees and run over fallen down trees. I even drive down the asphalt to load on the trailer. It seems to me a good hand laid glass hull is pretty stout, the guy that hand laid my hull works on off shore racing boats - which are all glass boats that get the crap beat out of them.
Its hard to find a good hand laid glass hull.
But like i said i have a metal hull also - I aint prejudice hehe

I have had both and run alum now,the only thing that has hurt me with fiberglass is destroying the sides.I currently have two dents in my hull that would probably been two huge cracks or more. From "bumping" into trees and such.Sh$t happens. But hulls are good, its just how your run.I think a fiberglass tends to be a faster hull than alum.Probably because most run no poly.
