Fierce West Broward grass fires are contained

Fire crews have contained a series of raging grass fires that burned more than 6,000 acres of land in West Broward, the state Department of Forestry said.

Department officials expect the blazes will be completely extinguished later today.

The fires -- which were located west of U.S. 27 and north of Interstate 75 -- began burning on Saturday, according to Scott Peterich, a department spokesman. Although one of the fires was put out over the weekend, at least two others burned into each other, creating one massive blaze.

A fire crew spent the weekend battling the flames and stayed on the scene until 10 p.m. Monday night. They also beat down the surrounding sawgrass to ensure the massive fire didn't spread.

On Monday, department officials were still investigating the cause.

I'm sorry, but that last quote really pisses me off. The only reason there weren't any Bass Boats out there too is because there isn't any water.
We can thank our "water management" for that ...... they're far more interested in seeing that all the Yankee toilets flush than they are in protecting our wetlands.

Could'nt have been anything to do with the sugarcane burning up there.

I'm sure that North wind could'nt have brought any hot stuff in a Southerly direction :twisted:
