camogonewild, it sounds like you have done your homework and have all the right ingredients for an economical yet light and quick first boat. keep us posted on the progress. good luck and welcome to SA.

You got the right idea no doubt.

I like a small tank and to carry gas cans for fillups in the marsh. I run to the camp drop off the cans, run til I need to top off then fill it at the camp, saves hauling around gas you dont need yet. for long runs I just take a break here and there and fill up out of the cans.

The way I run may not be the the way others do so it becomes a bit of a personal choice.

I seldome make long runs, I go to a camp for the weekend and set up camp then fish in the evenings, I may fish some and explore some during the days but mostly I frog at night which is 90% idling along so gas tends to last me longer than were I on a ride in a ride boat. I dont do much riding I go to where I am headed and shut er down. Then I hunt fish the area and use the boat if I have to.

If you want to just ride around then maybe a bigger tank might be a better option. Old timers and old ideas arent always in tune with the younger generation or modern ideas. Maybe thats as it should be too :)

Sounds like that will be alot of fun running, and light enough if you get stuck or hung up you will be able to spin ,push or pull it to get going again. My next one will be even smaller than that. Good luck and stay safe. Later, Cajun

Like was already said a 20-25 gal tank would be good ............you can always put less fuel in a bigger tank but can't put more fuel in a smaller one

LIKE 0550 SAID YOU WILL WANT TO RIDE MORE THAN SIT ! 20 GAL ! BETTER THAN TOTIN GAS CANS ! ONCE YOU GET TUNE IN YOU WILL WANT A 30 GALLON ! :D COOL DEAL ! :D

I'm gonna build a 14' jon boat with a 20-30 h.p. just to have a puddle runner that I can sling in anyplace and get to some back waters. Cajun

Running a bigger tank only means, keep it full or deal with condensation
That little rig should wear you slam out on 15 gals. of fuel.
and it's always good to keep your tank full. In this humidity
a half full tank only makes water.

As far as the little boat I'm talking about putting together, I have no idea how it will run out. But trial and error I'll get it figured out when the time comes. Right now its on hold till I locate a used horizonal motor. Cajun

i would go with about a 20 gal tank. ditto, on keeping it full...condensation will build up in a partially filled tank. post some pictures when you get it together.
