finally finished my boat and put it in the water ran great handled well for about 3 min then i thought to open it up every thing was going good untill the back of the boat started going down hard i got out of it quick but managed to not swamp the boat ..something was dragging got back to the ramp and found 3ft of poly from the middle of the boat peeled back...try to get that on the trailer.. anyway had a used hull poly looked decent It was the white ..anyway i dont know how to fix this one without dismantling the whole boat advise if you have any other ways and whats a good poly the poly was the only thing i didnt change woops

It cost me money but I sleep better at night. My Caddy Barge boat had white poly on it and it looked OK but I new better and put on new poly I know the guy who bought will be thankful. I have had nothing but problems with that old white poly. Be glade you didn't sink I had a friend who wrecked because his white poly came off!

White poly is junk, get the black or grey it is UV resistent. There is a reason the big airboat manufacturers don't use it.

Lots of different poly available out there now. HMW, UHMW, Recycled, 100% virgin, etc. I don't know if you can tell if poly is good or bad just by the color. It comes in lots of colors now. I think the best you can get is UHMW 100% virgin., regardless of color. Just because its white doesn't mean that all white poly is bad.

thanks for the advise but i can say screw the white poly two boats both cracked and one about sent my cont. to to bottom

the boat i got last week has white poly on it. it id cracked all over, but the boat has been sitting for about 5 years.

WHITE POLY IS SLICK BUT IT IS BRITTLE AND WAY MORE PRONE TO CRACKING BUT IT DOES RUN COOLER. THE UHMW (ULTRA HEAVY MOLECULAR WEIGHT) IS PROBABLY THE BEST FOR DEFENSE AGAINST CRACKING AND LONGEVITY AND IT RUNS PRETTY SLICK TO.

so what is the life ex of the white poly ....pulled the guts of the boat today actually went off without a hitch put the stand eng and cage on a palet and put it in the corner i will call around tomorrow to get the poly changed out i would do it myself but running out of steam i might try floral or take it to my buddys at diamondback not sure yet

You guys are scaring me, I have white on my boat, I'm going to take a good look at it tomorrow. Is there some thing that I should look for? I know cracks but are there any warning signs prior to cracking?

How old is the poly that you guys have had problems with?

I had white poly on my 12ft alum hull for 10yr and finally one day a round piece of poly of about a ft in diameter right about where the jack is tore loose. That white poly is much more slicker than black.IMO

Actually you can get black or grey poly just as slick as white it just depends on whether or not the manufacturer added pigment or not. The real issue is the specification it was manufactured to. You can have white and your buddy can have white and his may be more durable than yours due to the formula that was used and who the manufacturer was.

Th best rule of thumb is to probably look into changing it once it starts to severely spider web on you.

on my dads boat we had the poly on for severla years now most of the time the boat is on the ground at our house so i geuss the grass keeps moister in it an not let the sun crack it

a good way to check you white poly is to take a poket knife and scrape it it it cuts like hard plastic its still good if it but if it flake off like on old door panel on a truck than its dry and brittle. i have to deal with this stuff every day at work. they make so many different kinds and colors for different applications it hard to know what you raelly getting unless you get it straight from the manufacturer
