Flag

We had a airboater ticketed for flying both a Dive Flag and Airboat Flag (10 x 12 Orange) I have never flown a flag, only a dive flag when scalloping. We don't need them here in North Florida. Flats boats running 60MPH need them more than we do. But, I guess I will have to find somewhere to buy a Airboat Flag. Gerry

I am worried about this as I just bought a billet flag holder but it only holds the bicycle/atv whip pole flags which is definetly not a legal size flag. But in order to fly a legal flag 10' above the water line would mean a solid pole catching on every low limb in the glades. Very frustrating.
For those of you using regular VHF antennas they make a flag holder that will attach to your VHF antenna and allow you to fly a legal size flag. Unfortunatly for me here I use a wire whip style antenna too

You can have a couple of small stainless washers TIG welded to your stainless VHF whip 10" apart and mount your flag there also.

first time on line..new member...good to see others on line at this time of the night.

you can get those scrim flags at napa. that is what i run 2- for 7 bucks.and attached it to a 8' whip.

Flags are the law in fl. The switch grass can be 15 ft tall.

The dive flag can only be flown when you are diving. It is not meant to be flown when you are up on plane.

The boats are loud and tall and have a 7" blade on them. Why on earth would they require you to fly a flag? 10' above...

and the boat you are driving is loud and tall and you usually have ear muffs on making it almost impossible to hear another boat. Catching a glimpse of a flag saved my ass when I was about to enter a saw grass trail which was high enough to complete hide the oncoming craft that was running the trail at about 35 miles an hour. Due to a bend in the trail had I entered neither one of us would have had time to react to avoid collision. Lesson learned that day. Any flag thats visible should be there required by law or not.
Same reason Atv'r use them on sand dunes Atv's may be loud as hell but you can't see an atv on the opposite side of the slope. It may not always save you but it can't hurt.

I have these with a deer head, lycoming , Continental ,Chevy thunder , Dakota air boats and blank all with a 6 ft fiber glass pole and the have a built in swivel .

I just got in 35 flags on fiber glass poles that are made for air boats and will last had on up one my boat for almost 2 years and never took it down they run $20.00 each have pictures of them at http://www.dakotaairboats.com

What size shaft is on them flags? The billet holder I bought is for a 1/4 inch pole. Also does the flag itself meet the legal requirements for size?

They fit in those billet flag holders and the flags are over size to compensate for the silk screen the flags are 13 by 14

Jpatter, they're nice flags. I bought two so I'd have a spare.

I epoxied mine into an air hose fitting, and have the coupling mounted on my cage. Mounting or removing it is as easy as snapping it in or out of the coupling.
