Florida Airboat Association

Well ladies and gentlemen, I need some advice and assistance on this one. I started thinking about joining the FAA, you know, ready to lead the charge against the developers and other assorted jerks, so I went to the website to look for details on how to join. I was really surprised at the steps you have to take to "qualify" to be a member. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for making sure that you don't have a club of scaliwags and ne'er do wells, but it seems a little extreme. With my job, it does my best to get out on the marsh in my spare time, much less look for members to sponsor me, attend two meetings and do cleanup work. Is this really necessary in a day and age when we need to band together as much as possible? Does anyone know if there is like a "supporting member" status so you can contribute a few $, but not feel like you're pledging a fraternity?

Can anyone recommend any other clubs in the Orlando area that are family friendly?
:?

If you want to support the FAA, simply find a club that is already a member and be sure to join them and support their activities. A couple of these clubs that I am a member of are KRVSA and CCAA for instance.

A lot of people get the Airboat Association of Florida and the Florida Airboat Association mixed up.

I was curious about the comment - and went to the FAA website to see for myself. the FAA website is under construction.

The airboat Association of Florida is one of the state's oldest clubs. They have a clubhouse on the south side of Tamiami Trail I believe. Their ride area is quickly dissappearing, it's the area south of 3a. I think. http://www.aaof.com/

The info you got was from their site. Not the FAA.

As for sending money to the FAA, I'm sure they'll take your donation. I'm not sure who to contact. Most of the leadership of the FAA regularly reads this board so an answer will not doubt be coming.

There is some talk about supporter memberships or individual memberships in the FAA. Is there any progress on that or is it still in the works?

matt.

Ok Bohawg, if you become a site supporter for southernairboat then you are also a member of the FAA. Southernairboat is a member of the FAA. You do not have the power to vote. Only the delegate can do that and I am that person. We do have alternate delegates that go in place of me but you are more than welcome to attend all meetings. Another club, which has already been mentioned, is the Kissimmee River Club. Me and my husband are also a member of that club as well and Danny Brantly is the best. He fights for the airboaters. They are also a member of the FAA. I am also a member of BRevard County Airboat as well as Citrus County Airboat. They are both also a member of the FAA. Each club has a delegate that represents the club in the FAA and they are the ones that vote and all of that. They also come back to the club and let them know what happened at the meeting and such. Hopefully that helps and if you have anymore questions please pm me and I will help you out.

Well, I stand corrected. I got the info off of the Airboat Association of Florida and not the FAA site. I did a Google search and that's what came up, so I'll admit the mistake.

Whew! I detect some animosity. Lighten up guys, I'm on your team, remember?

Thanks for the info and I'll check into it.

I think it's cool you want to help out BoHawg. No animosity from here either.

I'm not sure, but I think if there is any animosity anywhere it's between the AAF & the FAA - Folks get them mixed up VERY often!!! BOTH are great groups made of the best people.

The FAA is in the process of deciding if they want to do individual memberships or not. I hope they do. Sounds like the perfect way for you to help out. I'd like to join with an individual membership also.

Dakota, as my delegate to the FAA, can you find out about that the next time you are doing the FAA thing?

BoHawg - What part of Orlando are you? I'm in Orlando too.

matt.

Well...maybe it's just one of those things about writing and not knowing a person's delivery style or tone. Not a big deal to me, I'm pretty hard to offend anyway.

Matt, I'm in SW near Sea World. Spend most of the time that I can on my boat on Cypress or Hatchineha.

Cool BoHawg. My little sis lives out in those parts. I'm near downtown, so close to the 408 that I can get out to the St. Johns on the east side of town pretty fast.

Lake Cypress seems like the farther destination, but is beautiful all the same.

See you out there sometime soon I'm sure.
