For you 22 mag shooters out there

Winchester has a recall on certain lots of 22 mag cartridges, that have the 45gr. dynapoint bullets.

Affetcted lots start with the pre-fixes 1WN, or 1XA.

These cartridges may be loaded with double powder charges!

The lot numbers are located on the tuck tab of the end flap of the package.

This re-call is for ONLY the 45 grain dynapoint 22 mag cartridges.

Check it out, or let any of your 22 mag shooting friends know about this.

Cool, does that make them a 44 Mag? :p

Seriously, that sounds like a BIG problem. I accidentally loaded some 38 specials once with a charge that was about 25% over what it was supposed to be. They ended up hotter than a .357 and it loosened up my pristene model 14 and knocked a lot of the blueing off around the front of the cylinder.

Double powder charge sounds like bad news!

Fortunately the 22 WMR is such a low pressure round theres not much safety risk if they double charged some of them. With the possible exception of some of the really cheezy .22 revolvers and tiny .22 WMR autoloaders that were imported in the 50-60s. Those things arent even safe with standard velocity ammo.

I wouldn't mind buying a few boxes of double charged .22WMRs. Be lot of fun in a bolt gun or in a Ruger singleaction. I'm really surprised there is room in the case to double charge them.

I'm a big fan of the .22 WMR by the way. Poor mans .357 when used right.

22 Hornet fills that portion of my arsenal. 8)

I just saw that re-call notice, and wanted to pass it along.

I got a friend who has a rifle chambered for the 17 mach2, and he loves it.

It's a nasty little round.

Federal has a new 22 mag round out it is a premeium 35 grain hollow point super accurate and it shoots 6 to 8 inches higher at 50 yards than any 22 mag round made because I have tried them all it is the best 22 mag ammo that I have ever shot awesome stuff.

I dunno, Scotty. Double charge would produce more than double the pressure due to the fact that the empty volume of the case is reduced. If it led to the charge being compressed, pressure would go through the roof

At the least I'd say you would rupture some cases which would cause extraction problems.

Red that might be the case with the /22 Mag. I just dont know much about them past just shooting factory ammo in a lever gun long time ago.

I have shot a lot of comressed charges in other guns though, but not in the overcharge mode, with no ill effects on case or guns. My worst case is I sure have backed a bunch of .357 primers out of their cases. Mostly with smokin hot loads and tired old cases though. I much prefer the .44 Mag for a fun hand cannon. Everything is much more tolerant than the .357. I'm a big Smith 629 Hunter fan. (unfluted cylinders).

Anyway I dont have a .22 Mag anymore and likely won't. I'm interested in this .22 center fire they got out. Haven tried one yet though.

.22 Hornet is evil and so is the .223 in bolt guns.

I sure miss my Redhawk. One of the only guns I ever got rid of.

Sad part is, I rolled the truck I traded it for too :(
