Fuel economy Gearbox ratios and counter rotatoring props

This one shoots a bunch of theories down, I'm just going by what the boat does!

Here is a good one for ya I just got off the phone with an alligator egg harvester. Now I'm only stating what he told me so these are not my words. "Our 572 counter rotator burns over two tanks a day we have to come in and refuel twice so it takes three tanks of fuel to run a full day, your LS motor with a standard 2.68 gearbox will run all day on one tank". This is what he told me today around lunch! I was shocked to be honest I could see 20% to 30% better but then the counter rotating props are suppose to have better fuel economy too, I believe something may be wrong with the 572 but either way he loves his LS motor on his barge! OH yea both boats are identical big barges! He told me their gonna make me a custom set of alligator boots since their saving so much money in fuel costs!

i can see why your motors do better most every larger couter rotator i have seen takes alot of throtle to get it going in the water or on the ground, but do haul ace.and out of the boats i have seen with your motor nothing larger than a 15ft(that i have seen with my own eyes) did not take much effort to get it going except one boat i saw with a thunder on it , but it was a heavy boat and still required not much more throtle then the lighter setups.

I know a guy here in Nebraska with a 572 and counter rotator and it is the biggest gas hog on the river! He is actually getting rid of it this spring. From what I see it is a spruce goose!

Fuel economy has been on my mind alot lately. My friend and I have made some observations. We have observed that boat displacement and weight dictate fuel consummation in that no matter what it takes a certain amount of horsepower to propel a boat to a certain speed . I don't know of but three people that have went to the trouble;e to weight there boats One being myself .Now me being no engineer mind you however apply a little common sense to the equation .Comparing a ls and a gear box to a bbc and a counter rotator on the same hull.the heaver boat would absolutely burn more fuel.Lets see some boat weights.
