I went out to the lake this morning to do a little recon of the marsh for next weekend.
I'll be honest, if you don't have a STRONG boat, don't even try it. I went in across from BS Hill and rode toward the road crossing. It's dry and rough but the grass is pretty tall for most of the way. There is some pretty bad ooey gooey black mud in the sawgrass trail right before the crossing. I ran the fencline around this stretch.
I stopped at the rode crossing for a drink and then jumped it and went to the square pond. This stretch is pretty bad too but there were one or two tiny potholes that you can hit to wet you bottom. The pond itself looks almost dried up.
Next I went around the big oak hammock and worked up towards Cypress. At the very beginning there is maybe 1-2 inches in the trail for a few hundred yds but that's gone fast and it back to the usual dry stuff. I worked over to the canal near the east trail and the canal is just a dried up mud filled ditch.
Hopped the north crossing and continued on up to Cypress and went all the way around it and took Reedy Creek in and got on Dead River. The marsh around here is dry to but the creek and river have plenty right now.
Stopped back by Drasdo and it looks nice and then went on down to MLK Ridge and sat up there for a while enjoying the sun. It got hot so I came home.
The boat ran AWESOME!! My temp didn't go over 160 and actually stayed around 145-150 for most of the trip. I burned a little over 15 gallons of fuel.
If you are scared of hill running or feel nervous about your boat's abilities, don't go too far in there alone!!! Night time would probably be easier because of the dew.
I took pictures but I'm having trouble loading them.
