Gardner Marsh Update

Went for a ride this morning...went from Camp Mack to the Yacht Club where I stopped to help Don get his bushhog back into operation so he could finish mowing the edge of the lake.

Continued on to the entrance to the marsh near BS Hill. IT WAS DRY!!!! I went for a pretty good ways through som bone dry stuff in the direction of the road crossing but decided to turn around and head back as I really didn't see the need in nuking my motor just to prove that there was no water anywhere.

Went on down to Cypress and cut into Reedy Creek. Right near the entrance I came upon a big yellow tour boat out of Cypress Fish Camp I guess. Anyhow, he was awfully big to be in that area but he politelty got over and let me pass...only he got over too far and got stuck. I turned around and after unloading his passengers we managed to get him going again.

Went up reedy Creek to have a look at the area around the Push-Down gate. The creek became a trickle so I turned around and headed out Dead River back to Hatchineha. If you are going to take Dead River, be careful!!! It is getting low and choked up pretty good in some places.

Booked on back to the yacht club and back to Camp Mack. Had the hammer down the whole way back to let the motor run a little and boy, she is scary fast compared to the old green machine!!!

Stopped by Big John's to fill up on the way out. I burned 7 gal that morning. Not Bad!!

BPS,

I'm thinkin about a "recon" Friday night ride on the 6th to check out the marsh so we can let people know the skinny of it on Saturday the 7th. :D

You game

I can tell you that as of Friday Sept. 22nd it was still dry as a bone. I don't think we've gotten any rain since then either. :x

We had alot of rain here in seminole and orange county last night .Hopefully some of it made it's way to polk and osceola. How much is the avgas at big johns?

Big John's Country Store (863-696-4866) was expecting a fresh load of AvGas this week and he was going to drop his price accordingly. He is a single operation and has to sell his fuels based on his purchase costs. I discussed the dropping fuel prices with him two days ago and he assured me he would price his AvGas based on curent costs - which are headed down. Best thing is we don't have to trailer 20 miles or more to Dundee to get it now. That's a cost, too.

Thanks for the info BD. It is a relief just knowing i won't have to load that heavy 30 gallon drum of avgas into my truck.

That is a relief - plus, he stays open late on weekends to allow those who have run all day to refuel for the night. I bought AvGas from him at 9pm last Sunday for a gator hunt. And, he's got BEER.

I gator hunted Hatchineha last weekend, same deal. You're better off taking the canal to Cypress. I got a little brave on the north side of Cypress and stuck my boat pretty good in the black mud. In case some of y'all haven't tried this, get a section of 2" PVC conduit. Once you get it under the boat, you can run the length of it.

Good on you Blackpowderscout for helpin' the tour boat. It shows the New Englanders how they should act. :D

hey ya'll,

We're gettin rain here in Polk, maybe not a lot but it's rain. The dam at hwy 60 has been closed for two weeks now, (I cross it twice a week minimun).

Can everybody down in the glades please fire up the pumps and send us back some of our water :D

How long a 2" pipe and what, do you lay it cross ways or the lenth of the airboat. Never had to use it but sounds good.

heres the silver lining plenty of clean open skim board mowed shoreline @ lots of free parking, and if any body goes down in the canal eazy to get a rope on em, its all good 8)

a1mudpuppy,

I've used several things for "un-stuck" tools. You can use a paddle/oar as long as it has some lenghth you're good. At first I'd use them crossways, but soon figured out that lengthwise works better. It just helps break the suction and gets your momentum up again. The conduit is twelve feet, I think. It works better because you get the length of the boat to get moving again. Obviously, somebody has to run back and pick it up, but it's a pretty cheap investment and works really well. Trust me, when it comes to getting stuck, I've been there and I'm always looking for new things to help. :D

BoHawg,

The PVC pipe is the cats meow! Someone on here taught me to cap the ends with a short piece of rope coming through each end. Easier to pull from the black marl mud once you've smashed it into the ground!

The marsh ride sounds like it's probably out :( But we've got plenty of other places to ride :)

Be careful, seeya on the river!
