Gas Tank Questions.

I am building a lightweight stainless steel gas tank for the mini.I looked at some tanks and they have more outlets than I think I need. Tell me if I am wrong. I need , a filler tube, a vent outlet, a pickup tube outlet, and a gauge hole. Did I miss anything, or is this about it. Does anyone know the approx. size & male/female outlets that are common for the vent and pickup ?Also what size tube do I want for the filler hose? I am using thin stainless about 18 ga. guessing, and its only about 5 gals. 14"x11"x8" Got any input for me I appreciate it. Later, Cajun

cajun,
I haven't found the water pump yet. on the tank I see you going fancy  you need a return line also if you look at the other tank you will see a bottle neck with rubber cap we could use one of those if you wanted or you could make the straight tubes normally they have a pickup line, return line, Reserve line (not required), vent and a filler neck tubes are normally about 1/4 ID some are enlarged to 3/8 ID
You can also add a site gage or a elec sending unit for a fuel gages if you wanted

I have some plastic tanks we could use if you want to save that SS

Thats a good idea about the drain hole. hey Gold, trying to figure out how you would stick a pump nozzel in a 1/4" hole for the filler tube,LOL. Why do you need a return line?I am gonna put a site gauge on the top. Did you mean the pick-up tube is 1/4 to 3/8 ? I just wanted alittle better looking tank other than the plastic ones, I have about 6 plastic ones laying around here. Gold, do I need an over-flow tank for the coolant? If so, I might put a small aluminum 3"x10" tube for the catch tank.

One other question, why does the pick-up tube come from the top, and not just have a nipple on the bottom of the tank? Trash ? Thanx for all the input. Cajun

hats a good idea about the drain hole

Agreed

trying to figure out how you would stick a pump nozzel in a 1/4" hole for the filler tube,LOL.

I hear very carefully but don't have any experience with that small stuff

Why do you need a return line?

those fuel pump will pull more fuel then requite an the return line allows you to send the extra fuel back instead of waste it

I am gonna put a site gauge on the top

side may be easier

Did you mean the pick-up tube is 1/4 to 3/8 ?

yes The filler is like 2 1/8 or 2 1/4" i can measure one if you need me too

I just wanted alittle better looking tank other than the plastic ones

I figured that was what you where doing just thought I would offer just in case

do I need an over-flow tank for the coolant?

I really don't think you will and we could always add it later but if you have something laying around to make it with go for it and will put it on there

one other question, why does the pick-up tube come from the top, and not just have a nipple on the bottom of the tank? Trash ?

you could use a bottom side nipple if you wanted to. the reason they are on top is the pickup tube has a extra filter to keep trash out of the fuel pump and when they hang form the top the normal pickup doesn't g all the way to the bottom but the reserve pickup line does

gotta go get the kids right now talk to you later
