GATOR POLL

FWC was at boat ramp measuring gators there was one other brought in at same time that was 9'4".

Left the gator party :D with Willie Howard from Palm Beach Post around 8:00pm. Harvested a 7'10" alligator. My friend Mark Dombroski and his father Bob Dombroski left with Joel from the Sun Sentinal and they harvested a 9'2" and 7'11" alligators. South Side of Lake "O". Jeff Kilinginsmith harvested an 11'6". Bobbi, Chris and Big Al harvested a 9'3" alligator from a chicken. We will all be returning this weekend so look for our update. And buy the Palm Beach Post and Sun Sentinal on Thursday August 17, 2006. Look in the Sport section.

Gator season is starting out well. Lots of media reporting good words for the sportsmen, hunters & conservations with interest from around the world.

Harvested an 8-5 & 10-6 opening night. Had them tagged & loaded by 9:30 in Lake county. Great place to hunt!

My guest missed two larger ones, with the biggest one being stupid & held for the light twice, was hit twice but was not hit hard enought. ( This gator was over 11)

Had Clear Channel radio WFLA 970 (Rush Limbaugh network) out on the water with us. Great guy, Robert Pankau.

Will see what Polk county has Wednesday, then a look at the big O for the weekend..................the additional good news is our kids, young women & poodles are sleeping better now that gator season is here and we have them on the run.

Hope all have a safe hunt.

PW

Two sevens opening night after long nigt of looking for a trophy on Lake Helen. Last night killed an 9-1, 8-5, 8-3, and 12-0 on Lake Poinsett.

My friend Mark Dombroski and Brian Jones harvested A 9'8"&11'11" on the south side of Lake O last night they had them tagged & loaded by 11:30 PM

Took a 7 footer opening night on the river by the oak heads after a long night of looking for a bigger one. Missed a 8 to 9 footer last night due to a crossbow malfuntion at the south end of Lake Washington. Have'nt been able to get close enough to any big ones, they seem to be real shy to the airboat. Think i'll try a trolling motor on it next year. Sheriff was at the dock last night checking permits.

cfth,

Where is the best boat ramp for me to access Lake Poinsette by Airboat that is close to the South end of the lake. I hunted there last year in a flats boat and put in off of Lake Poinsette rd but they dont allow airboats at night because of the houses. I put in at across the street from Lone Cabbage last weekend, but it is a long ride to the mouth of the river on the south side of the Lake. I have my permits for next week and the following week.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,

The closest place to put in near the mouth of the river is Lake Florence. If you turn at the McD's and head south it almost deadends at the lake. However, I have heard of people having stuff stolen from there trucks there. There are not lights or anything of that nature.

I know the area pretty well. I hunt up there quite a bit each year.

Thanks for the info, sounds like I will have to take the long ride around the lake from Lone Cabbage

I launch from Florence all the time and havn't heard of much happening in the line of thieven and vandalism lately. Pretty much common sence "Don't leave anything in the truck worth stealing" I personaly have never had a problem there but now that I've said that............

Thanks Guys,

I will go check that ramp out at Florence. Is there a trail that leads to the river from there or do I go back out into Poinsett and then up the river?

So far, so good. Low water is putting the gators into the holes and bringing the "other white meat" out onto the flats.

Opening night put a 10'6 & 8'5 into the boat & tagged out by 9:30 in Lake county. (Missed a couple that were much larger than these.) My client hit one about 12 on top of the head. Bent the driver and tossed the pole. He did follow up by nailing the 10-6 while on a plane. Good shot!

Went over to Polk county & hit 8-3 & 12-2. We had fought about an 11 gator for 1/2 hour (broke the line) before we got on the 12. Between the two fights, the 3 men onboard were so whipped that we had to bang the 12 into submission rather than doing the usual "knife trick."

Had 4 adults in my 13' Rivermaster airboat & as luck would have it, hit the 12' at the farthest part of the lake, 6 miles back to the hill. Took a while to bring the boat back up on a plane, but in did come up. Good ole 0540! Turned a 2 hour crawl to a 20 minute run.

Hit North side of the Big O Friday. Got a pair of sixes. Saw a few that were 8 or so (saw tons of small ones). Did not see any with any size. While we were leaving, a flats boat brought one in from the Kiss river that was about 10-6.

Hit West "O" Saturday with a couple of Yankee clients. Good crew to hunt with. Popped a gator in a ditch. We thought it might go 9 or so but the closer we got, the lizard kept growing. Put an insurance dart into him boatside with a "Bone Crusher" pole. Dart went in like a hot knife into butter. At the Harney pond drop, the gator taped 11-3 at 1 am. (Kept getting bigger the more we looked at it.) Another group (Dad & son in a flats boat) dropped a 10. Another group in a john boat brought in a pair of 8's.

Dropped the boat back in a little further down the lake and drilled one just short of 10 about 2 am. Saw Capt. Derick from St lucie and they had one about 9' in the boat. Saw one in the All American freezer truck that looked to go about 13.

Other: Capt. Rick Silkworth & Glenn Gerzazski poped 3 9's on opening night with a boatload of TV folks. Went back out & nailed a 12-6 in Polk county.

The 13 from Lake George must have been a moose. Hope you post a few picts.

With so many gators meeting up with the harpoon this week, the children, poodles & young ladies must be sleeping better!

Happy hunting,
PW
