So far, so good. Low water is putting the gators into the holes and bringing the "other white meat" out onto the flats.
Opening night put a 10'6 & 8'5 into the boat & tagged out by 9:30 in Lake county. (Missed a couple that were much larger than these.) My client hit one about 12 on top of the head. Bent the driver and tossed the pole. He did follow up by nailing the 10-6 while on a plane. Good shot!
Went over to Polk county & hit 8-3 & 12-2. We had fought about an 11 gator for 1/2 hour (broke the line) before we got on the 12. Between the two fights, the 3 men onboard were so whipped that we had to bang the 12 into submission rather than doing the usual "knife trick."
Had 4 adults in my 13' Rivermaster airboat & as luck would have it, hit the 12' at the farthest part of the lake, 6 miles back to the hill. Took a while to bring the boat back up on a plane, but in did come up. Good ole 0540! Turned a 2 hour crawl to a 20 minute run.
Hit North side of the Big O Friday. Got a pair of sixes. Saw a few that were 8 or so (saw tons of small ones). Did not see any with any size. While we were leaving, a flats boat brought one in from the Kiss river that was about 10-6.
Hit West "O" Saturday with a couple of Yankee clients. Good crew to hunt with. Popped a gator in a ditch. We thought it might go 9 or so but the closer we got, the lizard kept growing. Put an insurance dart into him boatside with a "Bone Crusher" pole. Dart went in like a hot knife into butter. At the Harney pond drop, the gator taped 11-3 at 1 am. (Kept getting bigger the more we looked at it.) Another group (Dad & son in a flats boat) dropped a 10. Another group in a john boat brought in a pair of 8's.
Dropped the boat back in a little further down the lake and drilled one just short of 10 about 2 am. Saw Capt. Derick from St lucie and they had one about 9' in the boat. Saw one in the All American freezer truck that looked to go about 13.
Other: Capt. Rick Silkworth & Glenn Gerzazski poped 3 9's on opening night with a boatload of TV folks. Went back out & nailed a 12-6 in Polk county.
The 13 from Lake George must have been a moose. Hope you post a few picts.
With so many gators meeting up with the harpoon this week, the children, poodles & young ladies must be sleeping better!
Happy hunting,
PW
Is it time to hunt Bears in Florida yet?
