ORANGE — Stan Floyd of Orange knew he couldn’t exactly run an ad in the pets category of the classifieds — “Wanted: Good home for my alligators.”
However, Floyd did find a good home for his 10 gators; they relocated to Gator Country, just west of Beaumont.
Floyd has owned Super Gator Tours Inc., which provided airboat rides, swamp tours and the very popular alligator attraction for 15 years. People were always welcome to see the alligators for free. The business officially closed Monday, never reopening after Hurricane Rita struck Southeast Texas in September 2005.
“We have not given any tours since the hurricane,” Floyd said. “The storm completely took the roof off of the building and flipped the boat dock upside down. Considering what else the hurricane did to my home and other business, giving boat rides was not on the priority list.”
