Looking for a 2.68 to 1 ration gear box WHAT MAKE & MODEL FOR A 502 BY 502 HP CHEV and how supplies it?

I recommend a Stinger or Rotator gearbox I have a Rotator 2.68 with three hours or less time on it if your interested P.M. me.

will the gear drives fit the same motor stand as the belt drives or do have to rplavce motor mount?

The advantage of a Stinger Soft Drive is it absorbs more vibrations than a Rotator does. For example take 2 boats, one with a Stinger Soft Drive and one with a rotator. Place them side by side, crank them up and let them idle. The boat with the Rotator will shake the cage and vibrate, as the Stinger will not vibrate as much. Stinger Soft Drives are also less noisy than Rotators, BUT a Rotator is rated @ 1000 HP as to where a Stinger is rated @ 750 HP, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on the specs, or difference.

You can get a stiger rated for 850 hp with super super wide gears in a soft drive for the retail price of $2900. I beleive the engine stand will have to be modified as belt boxes and gear boxes are different heights as well as diff. mounting patterns. You will need to consider these items when making the choices.

Belt drives do not come in ratios of more than 2.3 +/- to 1 and gear boxes are available currently in ratios up to 2.88 to 1 and more to come later. The hp rating is actually a translation of the torque so if your swingin big wide blades at slower rpm your tq. band is more important than your total hp figure. I would not reccomend you get a 2.88 and turn your motor 8000 rpms searching for that 3000 prop rpm figure. please consult your brand of prop and choose a ratio that enables you to turn the prop at the intended speed while keeping your engine in its intended rpm range for max tq/hp whichever one you feel is most appropriate. I have chose to work in my tq. band instead of my hp band. but that is just me. hope this helped some.

Rotator and Stinger both make a soft drive. I turn my 2.68 box 5,000 RPM's and on my 2.88 I turn a max of 5,400 RPM's. This set up runs dry, cruises, and gets the best fuel economy in my boat.

You can convert a rotator to the soft drive without to much trouble. I did mine a couple of months ago. no vibration in the cage at all now. You can buy the soft drive flex plate from Classic Panther in Coco. The new ones come with the soft drive.
