Gear Reduction Starter for SBC

A neat little gear reduction starter for the SBC can be found on 94-03 Chevy trucks and also on the Cadillac Fleetwod with the 5.7 V8

It weighs just 7.7 pounds and is very compact thanks to its planetary gear design. NAPA carries it, part # 46-5110 with a lifetime warranty (246-5110 is a cheaper 3 year version and 4N5110 is a NEW version)

I have one of these and they sound great when they work. And they work great!

Good idea Red. You must be careful on these starters because most of them have nylon teeth in the planetary unit(my starter shop told me this when i took him one for my boat). They are fine for low compression motors but probably not good for high compression motors.

Red, I like it ... I'll get one. It looks a little lighter than my stocker. Thanks!

If you have a high compression motor the best deal going is a Jeg’s PN#555-10001 it has a 4.41 gear reduction. I had an 18 to 1 compression big block on an airboat and the G.M. light weight one couldn’t even turn the motor over with the ignition off. I put on the jegs and it worked flawlessly. They are fairly cheap for such a strong starter. They cost $148
