Getting unstuck in the river

COLD

Well-known member
I was on the Alaskan site last night and they mentioned using a parachute for getting un stuck in a river. While im sure it could get exciting, what a brilliant idea!

ahh the old sea anchor trick it would work with the current they have did they post any pictures of the size and type of chute used ? or did they use it with the wind

No pics but the guy was a guest on a hunting trip down south by you guys. Threw the chute in the water. One person said to look for a small cargo chute as they are easier to manage and made out of thicker material. Sounds like an inexpensive army purchase to have in your bag of tricks! They also said never pull your boat sideways as things can get exciting quickley.

I am guessing that it is for use in flowing water and I could see where it would assist you getting free by using the current. However, I don't see alot of use in these calm marsh ponds around here. If I tried it up there I would probably snag the only down tree in the river.

Or how about an emergency braking action, sort of like drag racer. Now that I would pay to see.

I thought the word "RIVER" conveyed the idea of flowing water, sorry if it didn't. I hope not to many of you waited to long after throwing out your chute in a placid swamp!

Man - We sat there till we ran out of beer waiting for it to work. Current or the lack of may be why it didn't work in the marsh the other night.

Cold - Yea I sort of figured it was with the current in the river. Was just being silly. Really I am not a dense as the rumors my wife spread around.

I guess as long as there was a sufficient supply of beer on the boat at least it wasn't time wasted!

Hi All,

That was me on the Alaskan site. I was the one that learned about the chute idea while hunting with some friends. I now have on in my boats arsenal . What you want to know ?

I used to get stuck on black mud on the Elkhorn River in Nebraska, used soap to help to get me out of some places, I have since sold the boat that boat I used to get stuck in. I have replaced it with a 572 counter Rotator Panther, For the heck of it I have went back to the mud where I used to get stuck to try this new boat out. I have not been stuck yet. So when all else fails just get more horse power. I recommend the 572 counter rotator to anybody.

Hey Tim, are you a member of the Nebraska Airboaters Association? Have to point some of those guys to this site. It would be nice to get a little more traffic from Nebraska people.

ETA: Wondering if a drift sock would work.

Hey guys, I have been in MN on Business.

I will call the guy that does the news letter for our ass. and see if he can do a small story on the souther airboat web site.

I think it has been one of the best things for airboaters to communicate with each other.

We don't do much airboating in Nebraska during winter months, so I look forward to the airboat world and this web site just to see whats going on out there.

I will see what I can do to promote your web site. One thing I will do is add it to my personal web site. http://www.brysonsairboattours.com I don't have much on my site but it is a start.

I sold my old DB boat to a guy in Medford OR. HE asked my to come out and show him how to run the boat. So I flew out to OR last year to show him how to run a Airboat because he has never owned one before the first place we tested the boat out was a very deep lake wich I was not used to but I ran the boat in over 300ft of water, ( I am olny used to maybe 20 feet of water to run in) So the next Place we go is the Rouge River he never mentioned to me till we were coming up to massively running water with lots of big rocks that this river is normally navigated with a jet boat. SO I got broke in very fast on the different classes of water, is judge on how big the rocks are, how fast the water runs and how far the drops are. I survived the ride there was many times that I wished I could have thrown a parchute out in that ride. The whole time was balls to the wall and stay on the water and stay away the large rocks.
