BATTLE READY

Yes when you leave the Indian Reservation by airboat you are in Area 3A. The Indian have there area marked with white signs every 100 yards or so. There are trails all the way around the Indian land. The most popular trail is the one leading to the Microwave Tower. To ride in Area 3A you need no special permits. What was the name of your camp in Big Cypress that you lost? Are you now a member of a camp on the Indian Reservation or did you just have permission from the Indians to cross there land to get to your camp? Really sorry to hear of your loss. Seems to be hapening more and more. Friends of mine have camps really close to the Indian land that they are in the process of fighting to keep but it is not looking good for them. If you were paying $250 a year that was probally to cover the permit fee from the Indians. Last year the fee for Indian camps was $1350 and this year it is $930. Usually the guys in the Indian camps split the yearly fees among themselves. It is different each year because they adjust the fee for the glades being closed for high water. The Indians usually follow what the Game Comission does. What Indian camp were you involved with? If you have any other ques let me know.

Duece,

Yeah, 3A is a WMA. Check out

From oarnge flags to no dogs or firearms they got it there!

Shame to hear of the camp. Know of several people down
here who have lost camps to either Big Cypress,
Picuyne Strand or Everglades.
Dyin' breed we airboaters are

Hey Duece before you get out of the Miccosukee Indian Camp take a ride in Area 3. That is some of the best airboating in South Florida; the only other better place to ride is the Miccosukee Indian Land. If you are gonna ride Area 3 you will want to ride the Miccosukee Land. The permit fee is only $930 this year and if you split it between 6 people it is only $155 per person. To me that is well worth it even if you just ride once a month out there for the next year. Who knows you might meet some people that are looking for members. Alot of camps sustained major damage and the owners might be looking for help. Just an idea. I think I have been to your camp, my friends that have the Buzzard Roost are in the same situation you are in. Good Luck !

If you only ride down here once a year your right it would not be worth it. The Miccosukee Indian Land is small compared to Area 3. If im not mistaken the Indian land is approx 60 square miles and Area 3 is approx 900,000 acres. Big difference!
I hear ya on that dirt road, I just replaced my trailer lights yesterday, and while I was under the trailer I checked all my welds. That road is brutle.
The guys at the Buzzard Roost do not own the land that the camp is on.

WHILE WE ARE ON THIS SUBJET ! I WAS WONDERING BOTH MY KIDS ARE CARDED AMERICAN INDIANS , THEY HATE ME TO SAY THE CARDED PART BUT, ANYWAY !EVERBODY TELLS ME THAT WE CAN DO MOST ANYTHING i WANT TO DO ON INDAIN LAND ! JUST WONDERING !ANYBODY ELSE IN THIS DEAL !

Thanks for posting that link to FWC. There is a wealth of information in there that everyone who uses the Areas should read. From the wildlife and birds in the area to the types of vegetation.....man, I had no idea!!!

Now it's going to take me a couple of years to learn to identify each of these "species" that are out there.....

Thanks again!!!!!

Doc,

I hunted Big Cypress for 8 years, (people who think a regular WMA is strict should check out what privledges we have left in OUR national forests)!

Ran everybody out of there a few years back, burned down all the camps, designated trail system, etc.

Our tax dollars at work!

I just passed on a permit this year for the Miccosukee land........too many regs for me to handle. My illiterate excuse doesn't work either on indian land.

they close the area off to hunting, airboating, visiting your camp etc for BS reasons. You can't bring a guest unless they are registered and pre approved. All of this is on the indian reservarion, not the management area.

Duece if your paying the standard $250 a year its actually for the use of the land and has been divided up between the members .The Miccosukee does allow camps outside the reservation to redgister for use of the land and I feel it is well worth the money even if its once a year.As far as the state seizing land ,that has been going on for over 10 years and I havent heard of any redgistered camps outside the Indian land being taken yet .

Most likely the reason for them taking it is the camp may not be on the owners property, there are lots of camps up north that are not on their land and some dont even own any land .If you can get in a camp on the reservation that is your best bet,but do remember buying a camp on Indian land dont make it yours its just a lease and you can loose it at any time it you violate a severe regulation .

I ride in area 3 alot it is the best area to ride nothing can compare to the sunsets out there . I have several who own camps in 3a & 3b. It sure is a shame that the indians are taking camps.I thought you had to do something against there rules to lose your camp. I used to have A gost rider permit but no camp. If I were you I would keep up the permit to ride the land in that area it is the best place with alot of animals and cypress trees. If anybody knows of any open permits please let me know camp or no camp.

Duece you should attend the annual meetings at the reservation for the camp members ,its not about the money and they dont need our money .Most of the money they recieve goes to lobbiest for everglades resteration and fighting the South Fla Water District for flooding the reservation .
