Joe

Well-known member
Looking for some one to redo the stringers in a 14 foot combee.Had them replaced once and they wern`t done right, bought another hull and want to fix this one for back up. Any body find a good guy?

One of the best I know is in Brooksville. He is an airboat nut too. He only owns about 4-5 boats and several molds. But he is one helluva fiberglass shop too. His name is Bo , and a phone number for him is 352-650-3865 leave message if no answer, tell him Dennis the gator guy told you to call. This might be too far for you. But he is real good. Later, Cajun

Joe check with danny when you pick up your engine case he an do it if he has time

or as the old saying goes: "if you want something done right then do it your self" This statement seems to be true all to often

cajun, thanks I`ll call him tomorrow,It`s never to far for a good job 8) Gold,If I was any good at glass work I`d still be running the hull I`m trying to get fixed :D But I was out today and noticed my two center stringers coming loose :? So I have to at least get them patched in good before I go out again.Maybe I should just get an aluminum hull.Any body know where ones at?14-15 foot by atleast 7.6 wide? I`ll call tomorrow and price some new one  Thats gunna hurt

if you can handle the price tag garb a new aluminum hull and there are lots of used one around to just figure out what type you want and start looking but the bigger hulls seem harder to find right now.............. or you could build one :D

Stringers: airboat tend to use a old fashion method for stringers and have wood in-cased in glass personally if I had to redo mine I would cut them out completely and replace the wood with either the plastic wood, T-bar, or aluminum flat bar then glass over this way you would never worry about rotten wood again

Gold, I've wondered the same thing about the planks they now sell for building decks out doors.
The only problem that you might get into with them might be that the resin we normally use to encase them might not stick to them.

It would be easy enough to make up a little test piece and try it first ..... :?: .

Too bad I wasn't closer, I would fix it for you, I do fiberglass repair work all the time, but I would imagine NY is a tad far to bring it to get it fixed....lol

I know a guy Steve Baxter out of Lakeland. He used to build boats for Nick Griffen before he passed god rest his soul.He has patched my boat more times than I can remember.Very clean work and lasts a good while as long as you allow it.Cypress knees su--.

why wouldn't you just buy fiberglass stringers and then glass them in to your hull? Pretty sure even west marine sells them. Their site is currently down so I can't get the link.

Well I know they used to sell them I'll have to check my catalogs but I can't find them on their website or on boater's world nor through a search engine.

Stringers are designed for the added strength, but are still a composite item . unless you could find a solid glass stringer that could be "CUT" to shape it would no benefit your boat. (if it was a hollow core or foam core stringer and you cut it to shape you lose all strength) My choice of the above items was so as not to worry about rot witch seems to happen fairly quick with airboat stringers this is just my opinion and could be done with wood or any other method depending on the person

Thats some neat stuff! But the stringers in both boats arn`t rotten.the hull I`m running they are broke loose in the front,my other hull I hit an engine in a field and busted every ting loose and tore a large hole in the polly. Not to mention the stringers wernt laid right, theres an inch differance from front to back :? good money out to bad.
I`m leaning towards an aluminum hull. But if i stay glass and my stringers rot I think I`ll try that stuff! It looks like it would hold up real good, there useing it on transomes it must be strong.Wish I`d known about that stuff when the transome went on my center console,My brother said I souldn`t have jumped that wave! :D

Well called and got some quotes today on new aluminum hulls   So back to fixin my glass hulls.Cont520 can you pm me the number for the guy in lakeland,if i can cut some drive time off i will. Is 6490.00 average all over for an aluminum 14x7.6 with 3/8`s polly? If any body hear`s of a hull please let me know,I want aluminum hull but can`t bring myself to pay more for a hull than my hole rig cost me to build, even after replacing the stringers in one and having to get another hull

call Predator 863-557-0098

He build you one hell of a boat, and you wont have to worry about the runners seperating, he puts them in the right way! For a 13'5" wide track any color w/ powder coated trim, and slick bottom, its $2650.00

joe that sounds about right aluminum prices along have gone way up and depending on alot of factors like thickness, alloy , welded or riveted, open or deck over etc etc etc will determine the price . right now with all the used boats out there just keep watching and save some money. A glass boat would be cheaper new or used

Joe I have one of lil Bobs hulls as well I must say it is a sharp looking and very good riding boat .If you are going new I would give him a call.I have Steve Baxters 2 way if you would like I would give him a call for you
