good reading on our wetlands

Mwood,

Good reading! Yes and they took our off-roading/airboating rights away from the same area a few months ago!

I rode by this development the other day and my jaw dropped because Collier county had an urban development plan in the 80's that went to "s*&t" from the big money lobbyists and their generour donations.

And we the hunters, (the first enviromentalists) lose once again!

Ludicrist politicians!

Jeff

The person who wrote that is getting a very honest and heart felt thank you from me. I fear he may have ended his career. I’m a native Floridian and I loved this place but it’s now ruined. Any time I try to pull a permit for my house or property It’s a huge battle. But when a large developer tries building the county lay’s on their back for them. I had a friend who trimmed and only trimmed some mangroves behind his house. He would have been better off and punished less if he only killed somebody. A year later we saw a developer in the same area clear out acres of mangroves and leave only baron ground. Of coarse it was a multimillion dollar per home community they built there. I see it everywhere in the state all the newbeis and retirees put a stop to every outdoor activity I love to do and say air boating, fishing, hunting, four wheeling and jet skiing is harming the environment. That’s incorrect the thousands of people moving here and building everywhere is what’s destroying our environment far more than my airboat ever will. The part that will force me to pack up and move North is when they start a state income tax to pay for all the roads and public utilities. They are not forcing any developers or builders to burden any of the required needs for growth once again the common working tax payer will be forced to pay for everything after the politicians and developers are done raping our state. Get ready folks our taxes are about to go thru the roof because now somebody will have to pay for the new roads, traffic lights, utilities, state county and city employees, fire, police and all the other required needs of a metropolitan area. I feel like that Indian in the old commercial 20 years ago. He looked at all the litter people threw out. You know the commercial that showed a tear rolling down his face, that’s how I feel about what’s happening to our beautiful state

I guess John Anderson was right when he wrote" Seminole Wind" I wish twenty five years ago they would have strung a big fence all the way across the state line and put signs on it that said either Keep out or Yankee you can visit but you can't stay.

Y'all hit the nail on the head what I have seen happen here in central fl. sickens me Native floridians like native indians are being forced out of areas that have been open to them for generations someone should have set a better mouse trap here 40 years ago. my house just sold I close the end of june and will be moving to south mo. or north ark. I love florida but don't speek the language or like the crowds.

I agree with Wavethunder, we are in for a spanking from the tax man. I worked in California about 20 years ago as an intern for a large homebuilder. Development plans required the construction of schools and firestations plus impact fees to support the addition of other required service providers associated with development. Florida officials apparently are profiting from the development or they would have used some common sense in the over expansion of our areas. If you look at the increase in housing development and the price of land you have to ask yourself where is the increase in tax dollars going? Think of a house that was 85k then sold in the last year for 225k fixed up sold again for 270. The new taxed value is at 270. Now, multiply the increase in tax revenue times all the sales over the last couple years. Try to find a place in the realestate books for 270 in Melbourne. Our tax dollars will be used to repair the road damage from the development growth.

It’s crazy everywhere down here. I’m a hard core diver and just went to Key Largo for a weekend of wreck diving it was my first dive of the season. I go there several times a year and have been going for awhile now. This year it was noticeably different there is a cut thru Largo connecting the Gulf to the Atlantic it was really neat there were 12 or so houses on it for the last 20 years. This year it was all built up at leats 15 new houses popped up. The traffic was worse the convenient store, restaurant and all service people are now non English speaking and very rude with attitudes. Paradise has become the slums of Miami. Thank good I didn’t have to interact with people when I got in my boat the Key’s are still the Key’s and still beautiful but their developed and the average person there is a rude non English speaking transient. I saw ten or so huge developments on the way to the key’s in areas that never even had a home for 20 years. Why all the sudden is everyone moving to Florida. The average wage hasn’t changed but the cost of living and homes are going thru the roof. The average working class person is being priced out of the state. If the politicians and developers have their way this place will turn into a mini LosAngles within ten years. Hey Sniper I’m serious save me a spot and I’m bringing the flag when I leave Florida we lost Miami 15 years ago and now were loosing the whole state on all fronts.

Thunder a good freind of mine grew up in ft. lauderdale 1n the 60's and 70's and tells the best stories about how great this area was then and the pictures he has are unbelevable even with the old picture tech. but you could not pay him to go there today he says you need a bullet proof vest and a gun to go where he used to live. AND THEY CALL THIS PROGRESS. I beleive this trend will continue until florida is complety gone.

You are freaking me out (PRWLKAT) I say the same thing almost exactly word for word. The county makes over $ 6K in fees for every new house they permit plus they make money on taxes every time a house gets sold and they make more in taxes when our property values and appraised values go up. Go to the Brevard County property appraiser web site. http://www.brevardpropertyappraiser.com ... lues04.asp Look up Jim Ford articles I voted for him and now I’m proud I did. He stated in a news paper there is a tax surplus in Brevard because of all the growth he stated by law the county must lower it’s tax rate when there is a surplus. But our commissioners are fighting to raise our property taxes a lot. He warns us we must stop them and attend the meetings. Well here is my point with all this money coming in where are they spending it. There are no new roads or widening of roads no new parks and very few schools and the ones they built are only little elementary schools. Brevard county has the same utilities as it did in the 70s and so does Melbourne where is all our money going. Now when the smoke and mirrors are gone we will be taxed more to fix the mess from all this poorly planed and uncontrolled growth.

waterthunder I was born and raised down there (keys and the glades) 22 years ago I realised it was no longer (my town ) so I moved to merrit island on a creek of off the river they changed it to a manatee zone (cash cow) after being pulled over 3 times in less than an hour I decked my boat house. and bought a cabin on a lake in the middle of the Ocala natoinal forest within a couple of years they put the 90 decible rule on the lake and made riding my 4 wheeler after 10 PM in my front yard (the forest) elegal and are considering closing it to everything but a walking stick. and now they are trying to force me from running my airboat.what we need is a county called good ole boy with no foreiners and no attorneys where a mans word and hand shake were all you need. out of the 60 or so countys in florida couldnt we just get one. Clint Eastwood for mayor

I know you speak from experience the manatee has been the most manipulated extorted thing in Florida it killed the Florida cracker and his way’s. It was a tool for all the newbee high dollar home owners and politicians to push us and our life style out. The river is owned by environmentalists and the millionaires that live on the banks it’s no longer everyone’s river. The sea cow would be extinct by now if not for man getting involved and keeping the species alive. Hey Crock we have got to spend a weekend at your camp airboating before we lose that right also. That is why we need to push this monthly cruise because I know in my heart Florida will be gone in 5 to 10 years and I want my family to see as much of the real Florida as possible from an airboat before airboating is criminalized. Oh ya did the parts for your motor come in yet I will jump on it after I test my new boat this weekend at lake KISS.

Waterthunder

You can still buy land in Georgia for less than 1000. an acre and south Georgia does have Swamp land and lots of rivers as much as I hate to say it I was hoping that all the Hurricanes we had last year was going to run them out but it dident work but one more year of what we had last year might do the job.I know it is hard on the natives but if you are like me you get used to it but the yanks hate it I know because we had to lisen to all there bitching last year when they came to Georgia to get out of it.

My grandpa told me when I was a small kid that there who not be anything left of this state by the time my children was old enuff to enjoy it. He has pass on now the pass 13 years that he has been got I have seen the thing that he told that was going to happen. I with I knew what to have done to help change it. It makes me SICK every time that I go out to ride my boat or go out four wheelin , there is a new house or a sign there that say I you can't be here. It all comes down to who has the MONEY! It all about the MONEY!!! Don't lock the gate when you leave FL. so I can get out.(Maybe if golf was controled like airboating or hunting or even fishing, wonder if some of the yankees would leave.)

Didn't you know that a golf coarse and all the fertilizer they use is great for the environment. I use to have this dream of riding my CR500 with a paddle tire thru a golf coarse the mere thought of this still brings a smile to my face. I will hold the escape hatch open for you as long as possible but when I’m leaving don’t wait to long because I’m taking the flag.

Thunder,

The rich yankees and the airplane engine guys are driving you over the edge. Before you leave please write down everything you know about airboat engines. It's your ticket out.

Jim

Yea you’re right I'm just your average obsessive compulsive mechanical minded German. I do like the aircraft guy's much better than a Yankee carpet baggier. But man I really loved the old Florida I guess I was born just a little to late. Well I guess I should thank God I got to experience the Florida outdoors for over 30 years. I feel bad for the kids now, I am taking my 4 year old daughter outdoors every chance I get. She loves boating and fishing already but I guess most kids will never know any better so they wouldn’t ever miss it.

I'll be 68 this July and I have spent a lot of time away from FL. I regret every minute of it. It may not be what it once was, but neither is anywhere else. I start feeling bad the minute I leave.

Jim

I feel the same cracker about the second day i'm gone all i can think of is the marsh and all the good conversation i had with people on B.S.hill it sure has a way of getting in your blood and i know when i leave i will miss it every day but i just looked at 6 acres with a 3 bed 2 bath on the lake of the ozarks with a 40 by 60 shop for $45,000 and everyone speeks english

Water

Every day in Florida thousands of barrels of water are wasted away by the same people that cry abt wetlands for the sake of money. Their only truth is in the hours of darkness with the drunks at the clubhouse bar. :(

The Florida water management scheme is the biggest joke ever pulled over the eyes of Florida residents. They don't like Airboat people sense we're generally first to see their dirty work. We're losing our drinking water at a pretty fast clip & if they know nothing else they know where it's going.

Used to like golf occasionally when I was younger but today it turns my stomach so bad I hate to even go by one. I've been with some of the biggest brass(trash) in get togethers at golf courses around the country in my flying days. I must only tell you the schemes they hatch over money against the American people is sickening to say the least & so happy I don't have tobe around those kind anymore. :)

Thanx Mwood for the link to St Pete. I've passed it on to Ch12 here in Jax.
What they'll do with it is unk but they are still some pretty good people here.

Vote guys vote & carry every soul you can muster!

Thanx, Gben
