Great Airboat Air Cleaner???

I see countless people with air filters that the prop pulls as much air out of as get's injested into the engine, and why I shroud mine. But this may be intersting to some of you guys..Funny it's designed to be a resto piece and even more ironic that it's an old Cadillac/Oldsmobile design.

charles has one off those on his caddy powered mustang, if'n i'm not mistaken his has flames on it.
on another note id hate to see what on of those would do to a prop

I use one of the K&N xstream flow air filters with the filter top instead of the solid top. Is this not a good choice for an airboat due to above said reasons?

Well considerin a beer can can hurt a prop, I doubt any aircleaner is gonna be met with good results. And on that note the alternator would do some serious damage too...But I guess that's why we bolt em down! ROFLMAO!

Although it'll run OK with that filter, I've seen some occasions where the engine actually stalls because the airflow over the bowl vent was picking up fuel (Me and Thunder went through this on his race boat years ago). I think the filter you have is great, I'd just build some form of a shield over the top (give it bout 1' clearance) and around the back side. Matter of fact we've had good results duct taping the back half of the air cleaner. JMO

I totally agree. Years ago I built a DD cadillac boat and was tuning the motor on the trailer. At close to full throttle I noticed that the fuel was being PULLED out of the boosters on the primary side and out thru the prop. Much of the fuel was sucked back into the carb but much was lost. The fuel would bow up about an inch and then get sucked back in. It was really cool to see but I knew the prop and carb were fighting for the same air. On that boat I made an air filter housing with only the front open. On my current boat I used a Harwood scoop and cut it down to make a low profile scoop. Have a great night everyone :) .

on mine there is this really cool oil drain pan turned up side down and bolted to the top of the carb it works good i've a few boats with this setup the guy who thought this up musta been a genus :)
