H2Ad 160 hp

Has anyone ever run one of these lycoming h2ad motors? I put one on my buddies boat that he had bought fom me which used to have a 180 hp and it runs better or at least just as strong as the 180. I heard those motors where stronger than a regular 160 but it was definately noticable.

I know I like mine P.Vento.

That H2AD has a little more compression than the regular 160. It comes with 9:1 while the standard 160 has 8.5:1.

I replaced an angle valve 170 with mine & the power seems to be about the same. If anything, I'd say the H2AD might be slightly stronger.

I've got about 100 hrs. on mine (it was a runout) and with the exception of what seems to be moisture in the mag. ocassionally, I haven't had any problems with it.

These motors did come out with some crankshaft & camshaft problems in the late 70's when they started building them. If you want to read about it, click this link & scroll down about 3/4 of the page to "The O-320-H2AD story".

This engine requires an additive add to the oil. If you use Aero Shell 15-50 it has it in. You can use a single visocity oit Arero Shell 100Plus 50 wt for summer 40 wt for winner down to 25 degrees. The additive is to keep fromwearing the cam shaft out. This enginee was a new deign in 1977 & only produced for a few years. There are not many parts that are interchangable withe other 0320 Lyc.
