Headers discoloring

Hey guys ,

We are trying to gather some info on how many hours it takes for most people to discolor their headers and or exhaust components . If you could include what type of material ( mild steel / stainless/ chrome ) and hours in service it would be greatly appreciated .

I bought a set of ceramic coated headers from Airboat Pro's and they had discolored after the 20-25 minute run that I put on them burning in the cam.

So that was 20 minutes at 2000 rpms ?

i have Stainless on my o435 and it too about 1 hour to start turning gold. But i did not mind the gold color because my boat is garnet and gold. so the change process just added more color.

Yes, sir .... about 25 minutes of running at 2000 - 2500 rpm.
They didn't discolor at the individual cylinders, but they did at the collector.
