Hello Everybody

Hello everybody. I just recently found the fun in airboats lol.. Now I'm dying to learn more about them as much as I can and hopefully be able to afford one in the near future. I'm an avid hunter and fisherman and I just wanted to introduce myself.

YOU CAME TO THE RITE PLACE ! THE BEST HIGH PERFORMANCE BLOW HARDS ON THE WEB ! WELCOME ! BEWARE . IF YOU USE THIS SITE ! THIER NO REHAB FOR THIS DISEASE OR AFLICTION! ITS HABIT FORMING ! :D

Thanks for the warm welcome. Now my first question. I guess its a good thing I'm not ashamed to ask questions even though I can sound stupid to yall experienced people lol.. Can somebody please explain to me what an gpu 220 is? I understand its a motor but I'm still lost.

GPU STANDS FOR GROUND POWER UNIT. THEY ARE SURPLUS ENGINES THE MILITARY USED IN GENERATORS. THEY HAVE 1 MAGNETO INSTEAD OF TWO LIKE THE AIRCRAFT O470'S. BUT SHARE SOME OF THE SAME PARTS. THEY HAVE PRETTY DECENT POWER FOR THE MONEY AND CAN BE CONVERTED TO AN 0520 PRETTY EASILY. 220 H.P. STOCK. 300 H.P. PLUS CONVERTED. IF YOU ARE IN WEST PALM , ABNER AT KEENER'S MACHINE SHOP DOES THE CONVERSIONS.

Thats for the information on that. Im still doing research on motors and hulls and everything. Im wondering if I would just like to buy about a 12 foot hull. Would something like the 220 be good for that or to small or big.... I would like to run a lot of dry ground but I will be running alot of water too. I want something cheap so I don't have to worry to much about destroying something nice since I'm learning... I also need dependable too though.

With a 12' boat rigged light a 220 will take you and 2 friends where you want to go. Then you have the option of doing a conversion later on down the road. I had a 12' combee fiberglass hull with a stock 1 mag zenith carbed 220 that ran great on the hill. have a couple of pics of her in my gallery. one with me and 2 friends runnin' the hill. just remember, when in doubt power out.

Welcome huntnfish87. i'm new as well and don't worry....no sucha thing as a stupid question. As far as I have always been taught, the only bad question was the one that was never asked. These are some good people here and they know their stuff about these moneytraps we call airboats.

:D

huntnfish,
Welcome!! I am real new to this website also. You can find out just about anything you want to know about an airboat. This site helped me determine my first airboat. I purchased a 220gpu single mag 12.5 laser style hull and love it!!! It has been real dependable and inexpensive. I would not think twice about buying another one. If you have any questions let me know!!! Good Luck!!!

Oh I got some questions alright lol. At the shop right now though so Ill have to start asking a little later.

Welcome to the forum huntnfish87

GLad you joined us. Like everyone else is ssaying, you came to the right place.

Even us ole codgers ask stuff we used to know and frgot. Hahahah

The nice thing about CRS is that every time ya get to go airboatin its just as much fun as the very first time was. Same for talkin bout it here.
Ask anything and youll be surprised how experience and knowledge just jump out of the woodwork here at ya.

While your chasing links around the forum, click on the little "Southern Airboat Member" right under your name. It will give ya a chance to help support the site. This wonderful place don't run for free. Its not how much ya contribute, is that IF you are able ya contriburte something. There is no mandatory time to do it again, you don't expire. Lot us do it annually and lots of us just contriburte when anything is going on to help out. So far I have found the site to be worth thousands of times the contribution.

Consider if help ya find here gets you into the right boat not one that doesnt fit? Or help found here saves an engine, hull, prop, hull, or trailer. Or maybe a life. Anyway think on it, theres no mandatory requirement, but it is a bargain.

Either way we will get your questions answered.

Scotty

Tim, you still owe me some 'whisker' fishin on that Platte River of yours .... I haven't forgotten.

Did you try those disposable gloves I told you about for takin em off the hook?

olf

I don't know if they were the same brand as what you used. But I did use some disposible gloves worked pretty good.

Thank you for the idea.

My hunting season is coming up so, fishing seasons slows down. Will be in a bow stand or stalking deer on the belly with bow and arrows from October from Dec.

Tim
