Help need O540 JUGS

Does anybody have 6 good unchromed parallel narrow Deck jug's. I may even be interested in Short jug's. I need 6 good cores! Not wanting something that has been chromed or separated! How much does stuff like this go for! Mine have been chromed and I do not want to use them!

JC Stanley bought 100 steel straight valve cyls out west a while back that are new . Some are complete assemblies with all valve gear, pistons, rings, pins etc.407-927-9701
These have never been in a plane or boat. fit 0360 or 0540

Do you know how much he want's for them! I'm thinking maybe even a short jug so I can move to a smaller wrist pin dia. and move it up in the piston further and cut down on theses three pound piston assemblies! All of this depends on prices if it get's too expensive I'm gonna change everything and make it the way I want it! My god they could build three Yogo's from the metal in each wrist pin!

Not exactly sure but pretty reasonable from what I hear. I think Dick Waters bought a bunch already. JC does have some 0320 cyls too that may work for your short jugs.
Give him a call.

I have 5 may be 6 jugs that were pulled to do a major overhaul form an airplane. Customer replaced all jugs with new. They are first run with 2650 hours since new. They need some work. My experience has been you can buy new airorthy jugs for less that 100 than a rebuilt jug. I have had good luck with ECI nickel cylinders both new & overhauled ones. ECI heat treats the head when they overhaul the clynder to stop cracking.

i was at jc shop several mos back and ask him about those jugs if my memory dont fail me he was asking 3 hun

I talked to JC Stanley yesterday (407) 927- 9701. He sells them, 1:57-1 ratio. With an adapter plate and a reduction, I think he said Rotator, is $4500. A 0550 350-400 hp Continental $10,000 to $11,000 depending upon modifications. He has a 15 x 71/2 Alumitech 3/16 bottom, 1/8 sides, 1/2" polymer with that setup, and says it runs dry ground with 6 people. He likes the Whirlwind 3 blade Stump Puller prop for that setup.
He also has new 0540 straight valve cylinders, wide and narrow deck, for $500.

I have 6 steel cylinders for 150$ each.

I use 0-320 wristpins that are half the weight of 540 wrist pins. Or you can use 0-290 wrist pins.

If you go with short jugs then you have to use short rods too. Or a spacer. And you can't move piston further into jug because the top ring is close to the end of the barrell. With long cyls and rods you have room to play.

Hey guy's can you help me out what is the bore length difference between a short jug and a long jug. For what I want to accomplish it sure looks like the short jug is the way to go!

the 320 rod is 1/4" shorter than the 540 rod
the 320 stroke is 1/2" less than the 540
if you use 320 rods you need to modify rods( turn bolts around) and clearance rod cap and pistons.

Cool some good info thanks. I believe I want to run 480 angle valve short jugs on a O-540 narrow deck, will this work? and what should I expect to pay for complete jug's! I have a set of Narrow deck O-540 parallel valve jug's with flat top pistons they are standard and the bores are round and in great shape I want to get rid of everything valves, springs, pushrods, pushrod tubes, rockers andybody want to deal!

I just want unchromed standard! I prefer an iron bore! I also do not want a jug that has been split to be chromed!

There is nothing wrong with chrome. When a cylinder is new it is steel and with steel you use chrome rings. Then after the cylinder goes beyond ring size it gets chromed and with chrome you use steel rings, Anymore more cylinders are nitrated which is alot harder than chrome or steel. But rings to be used with nitrated cylinders are outrages in cost. That why you don't see anybody airboat running one.

I'm gonna run a different ring package and stack then an aircraft motor so chrome is a no go for me! I really need a complete set of angle valve 480 short jugs if they were originaly iron and were rechromed I guess I can bore out the chrome job if it's not too thick!
