help with my O540

i'm new to the airboat world and i just bought a boat with a O540.....pretty cheap. runs good if it's not working to hard. When i run it around 2000rpm's + up stream cyl head, engine and oil temps go up and oil pressure goes down way down. what do you think is the problem???? also i took it caribou hunting up to prudoe bay area in alaska , i got in a situation where i had to run it hot. it ended up overheating lost power .....oil every where and it died. looked like the oil came from the vent line and a little from one of the valve covers and cyl. after i let it cool down it started harder than usaul but once it fired up it ran fine untill the temps got to high again. is the engine scraped or could it be an easy fix. i don't think the boat was maintained very well before i got it. it has one oil cooler under the drivers seat . could it be a cloged oil line/cooler or a screen? any info would be appreciated

0540's are pretty reliable engines ,i have a friend who has been running one for 18 years since overhaul and he runs his boat hard. Sounds like you may have a tired engine in need of a rebuild. You should check with an aircraft mechanic in your area.

when you say it gets 'hot'.....whats the temp? 2000 rpms should not be any strain on that motor at all. probably time for a re-build.....bring it to an a/c mechanic. i thought i had all kinds of problems with my 0540 but after a real mechanic looked at it, it was just a simple simple simple problem that i overlooked. these guys know what they're doing!!!!
