Pretty good video. Especially with the cop doing the safety check. LOL I'm pretty sure that guy got a ticket (or worse) as soon as the video cut off! Ya think?
I'm not too much a fan of driving around and scaring people like that though. But I have to admit, stuff like those guys at the gas station does give me a chuckle.
It 's just something I would not do very much.
I orginally bought my train horn (off of ebay) to mount into my "crap" truck - a beat up old GMC Sonoma which I bought at a city surplus auction for $800. BUt I had so much fun with it just hooked to an air line at the shop, I never got around to putting it in the truck. Then the boat came along and it was a match made in heaven!
They are becomming more popular in vehicles. I'm pretty sure they are illegal to use on the roads. But there are MANY times in traffic when I wish I had it to wake up some drivers just coasting along in the fast lane, yakking on the phone and not paying attention.
There are a lot of knock-off train horns out there... and while I'm sure they are good quality units, it's gotta be an AUTHENTIC train horn for me. I've always loved trains, and for the last 20 years, I've lived 2 blocks from the main rail line thru Orlando (and the center of the state) and I have really grown to love the sound. (some of my neighbors complain to CSX about the trains passing at night... much like the airboat issue? What is wrong with people?!!!??)
And the sound is not just the "tone" or "chord" of the horn... a LOT of "that train sound" comes from the valve, and the way you pull/hold it. If you get one, try to get a real valve instead of a solenoid valve. It means running the air line thru the cab of the truck, but worth every single bit of effort I think.
Check out Grover Air Horns.
http://www.groverairhorns.com/train/train.html They are NOT cheap! But they are REAL - refurbished horns off old locomotives. (Except that first one - the chrome one)
Mine is a Nathan P-series horn. Three trumpets. But the manifold is for a 5 note horn.... At some future date I may seek out the two missing trumpets.
And make sure you run a large enough air line to the horn. I'm only using a 1/4" air line... but when I had it hooked up at the shop it was on a 1/2" hose, and it was easily TWICE as loud! If you can, use reducers to be able to use a 3/4" valve. Or buy the original train style valve.
Thunder's got one now. Sounds like Faron's hooked too! C'mon JD.... that nice boat of yours would sport a loco horn very nicely! You gotta get one too!
