Hobbs Meter

Who knows about Hobbs Meters. Where to get, how to connect, can they be preset to a certain number etc.???

Scotty

Most good auto parts stores have them or can get them. I know NAPA has them. They just hook up with a + and - thru a switched ignition source. They can also be hooked up thru a presure 2 contact switch that is normally open. I have never seen any that can be adjusted, you could hook it up to a battery for as meny hours as you need it to be at just dont forget about it.

Figure what operating pressure you need your system to switch at
and how your circuit (n.o. or n.c.)is run.

The adjustable switches are not shown at the website
Series III Adj.
1-7 psi n.o. Single circuit 2 term part#73591
7-30 psi n.o. Single circuit 2 term part#74448

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the replies. Its simpler than I ever dreamed. Obviously its just a DC clock. Yeh I can preset it to close to the actual hours on the engine. Roughly 275 hours on the engine so I just divide that by 24 and start watching it at about 11 days. Set the alarm clock on that day and get the right hours.

How simple does it get. The pressure switch in the oil line only lets it run when the engine is actually running.

Got it ! Thanks again :)

Yep, Scotty, you want to wire it into a circuit that is only hot when the engine is running if you can, like oil pressure or fuel pump.
That way it you went off and left the inition switch on, you wouldn't be running up hours until the battery went flat.

You can get a Murphy Switch shut down system with the adjustable
switch in the temp. gauge, and it seems like there was a momentary
override switch that had to be held untill your engine made oil pressure.
now all that is done through your ECM.
