When that SOB kills your dog, then its ok to shoot him.
good dogs are too hard to come by, and there aint
nothin to prove anyway. ( sorry to hear about yer dog )

It sucks to have a dog killed but there is nothing in the world like catching hogs with dogs. Some of them grove hogs are bad to the bone too. Hey dixie do you run cut collars or vests??? We run the cut collars that come down and cover a little of there chest. They are a little different then the standard 4" wide ones you see and work real well. If someone will post the pic I will put it in my user gallery. This is one of my favorites. My Dad took the pick. Hog in the picture has about 6" of teeth but could never cut the dog . The teeth come alway the way around and almost touch his nose. (Somebody had knocked out his wetters)

I will see If I can do this.

The vest works great for your catch dog, but they sure drag your finding dog down. They get hot and they restrict your dogs movement. When we first started hunting the vest on all the dogs we where getting more cut in the rear and back legs because they could not turn as fast. I hunt cut collars that we made from a heavy duty crane sling. They are about six inches wide. Its been a while since we have had a dog killed. Knock on wood.

for my bays i use cut collars and my catch dog had a cut vest and cut collar on an the hog went right though the vest like butter no lie!

Man I sure would like to go hunting like that sometime.... anyone ever need someone to help out I sure would love to go, and I have my own boat too....

That Hog probably has no weters, no weters, not sharp cutters, they just grow and grow. Some hunters knock the weters out so they can catch em and not worry about getting there dogs cut up.

GC,

You are correct the wetters were knocked out (check out the entry two about the pictures. I have not figured out how to post pics just yet). You cut wetters for a couple of reasons.

1. Takes a while to get sharp teeth.

2. Makes em grow bigger (longer).

The baddest hog walking in my opion is a rank 200 lb'er with about 2" wetted to the gum. Put him in head high palmettos and let the fun begin.

Try Jake at Southern Cross in Big Pine, by Fort Myers. I've run Southern Cross vest for a long time. there Kevlar vest so there a little lighter then most. He has several different vest , a strike vest for your bay dogs and trail dogs which allow them to run pretty well. And then 2 different cut vest for your catch dogs , plus cut collars as well.
They all hold up as good as anything I've seen.

Sorry about your dog , it's always a shitty part of the game!

10-4 200lbs 2" razors= Dog Killers. I tell ya that is the best times ever, pounding palmettos head'in to the Dogs. Wondering whats caught.

I just statred running one of my trail dogs with a full vest after spending a few hundred the week before when she caught up to the pig. She learned to try and catch from her daddy that did catch several pigs throughout the years i ran him. When she is on the trail, i would have to have an anchor attached to her a$$ to slow her down. Doesn't care for the vest while we're runnin but drop her down when she winds and the story changes. Last week was the last weekend for us until next year but as fate would have it they caught up to a 350- 400 lb. boar with 3 1/2-4" cutters. My other girl with no vest suffered two 6" cuts. One under the front left leg and one up in front of the left rear leg. She does not try and catch but was a victim of several charges by the pig when it was bayed up. I tracked the hounds during the chase and when we pulled up about 25 yds, we had a great view of what was goin on. Bill was 778.00 this time for her. She also will have a vest next year. The one with the vest was lucky. The cutter penetrated the vest, entered the skin and exited about 4" above the entrance wound. NO damage except two small 1/2 holes. The vest saved her from what i consider a very, very large wound that may have killed her. The vest consists of two layers of 1350 ballistic material with a liner between them. Cost 65.00 plus freight. As far as Jake is concerned, he is too unreliable. Nice guy but just can't rely on him. I want service when i want it. Not when the vendor wants to provide it. Course, this is my opinion. May not line up with brydogs opinion.
