Don't think that safe for human consumption? I doubt its legal in fl. People wild hog everywhere. Hogs travel miles and miles in no time.

So this could not be used anywere in florida really

1080 baiting is not permitted in urban or residential areas where potential harm to domestic animals or people may occur.

There are various state and territory regulations as to where poison baiting can occur in relation to various features such as houses, roads, water courses and property boundaries.

Baits must be placed at least 150m from a dwelling; 20m from permanent or flowing water bodies; 5m from boundary fences; and 5m from the edge of formed public roadways; or as specified by State/Territory.

oh, you want to eat the hogs, not just get rid of them.

I bet the farmer don't care about eating them.

Anyway, the active ingredient that puts the hog down is a food preservative used in all kinds of foods you already eat. The pig doesn't have the genetics to process the preservative the way humans and other animals do and it causes them to essentially go to sleep due to low oxygen content in their blood.

it's like they suffocated.

You can buy the preservative in Amazon for making pickles....same stuff that's in Gummy Bears.

Harmless to humans.

All that said...yep, not legal in FL. Yet.

it will eventually as the pig scourge continues to grow. once people in expensive neighborhoods start waking up to a yard that a skid steer loader drove around in for 6 hours.....3 times a week, laws will get passed....PRONTO.

The pig is an invasive species after all.

Anyway, just passing along some info. use it as you will.

I know the farmer doesn't but his neighbors do. poisoning is never a good idea. There web site even said not to eat.

I wouldn't eat it either, and I get the poison angle.

However, "poison" is possibly a bit strong description.

This is what pigs can't handle. it's used to cure meats and other preservative uses. You likely eat this stuff semi often without knowing it.

just saying....its not likely to wreak havoc on anything but the pig. If someone wants the meat for food, then, they have to cull in a different way.

Personally, pork is cheap. Crop loss, property damage, etc are not and so I would prefer to get the population under control as primary goal.
