Hoverwing

This beauty is using a technology that is growing faster than anything else right now in the world of flight.

The Russians have ENORMOUS craft designed to fly in ground effect, and both Boeing and Lockheed are developing similar craft for the Defense Dept.

The idea behind it is that when a wing approaches a surface (land or water) the air beneath the wing begins to compress off of that surface. That's called ground effect. So, if you build a craft that is designed to never leave ground effect, you can take advantage of that cushion (which increases your lift and lets you carry more) and move entire armies to anywhere in the world in less than 24 hrs.

Or carry all of the FedEx packages for one day for five European countries on one flight.

you need to longer gig poles for that boat  I have seen boats fly and flew one my self landing was not very good did walk away more like swam away.

I don't remember when it was but Popular Mechanix devoted an issue to WIGs but they called them ground effect machines then and hovercraft were called hovercraft not ground effect machines. Damn the terminology has changed. WIG is recent. I've always wanted to build one, just never got a roundtoit. Maybe in my next life.
