How do you choose a prop?

I have a 16' boat with an O470 in it. I use it to hunt in Alaska, mostly I run rivers and marshes as well as quite a bit of cross country stuff. I need to be able to do all this while looking and packing a moose. I am currently turning a 72x38 wood prop but don't feel I get much thrust from it. I have been looking at going to either a multi bladed composite or a paddle prop but don't know the pros and cons of each? What works better for what? Any suggestions on which would be best for my use? :?
